The pressure is definitely on Blake and the Kings. If they falter and miss the playoffs we might see a house-cleaning the likes of the one in Vancouver a few seasons back.
LA, almost the 2014 Canucks where the team is too loyal to their long term guys to do what was best for the team as a whole. The old "not fair to the twins" kind of applies to LA. They opted to rush their rebuild to make good on the final years of Kopi.

For LA, the Blues, Wild, Flames, Kraken are not exactly on a torrid pace either. They have a lead of 5, 6, and 7 points on this group with equal games remaining basically. Their h2h with Van could very well decide their fate.

On Penalties: This team really needs to minimize the usage of the players that are prone to taking penalties. Immediately, that's Zadarov and Cole. LA's PP is similar to that of the Canucks'. They will burn the Canucks if the penalty rate remains unchanged.
Some of these penalties could be a result of a NHL directive on hitting in the easy season too.

Most of the big hitters are the penalty leaders in the league and lately they are getting more attention it looks like. The league looks like they are adopting a "body contact" rather than "body checking" attitude in the regular season.

There are also a lot more "size" penalties happening. There is no way Myers or Zadorov should have recieved penalties against the Penquins. Zadorov's penalty, O'Connor tried to power his way past Zadorov who held his lane and O'Connor simply was put off balance and was falling. Note, O'Connor skated into Zadorov while trying to power around him, Zadorov did not instigate the contact. The Myers penalty was clearly 6' Rackell dipping down under Myers stick where Myers was carrying it at his waist level and then lifting up. Again Myers was basically holding his position because this was a PK situation. Still one ref called both penalties.

Game management.

These large specimens will be valuable in the real season and against LA.

Kopitar will have a fun game playing against Hronek and Hughes. He has dominated smaller defencemen for years.

Doughty, who can forget his statement "there is no way we should lose to a team like that, it's embarrassing"

These games are interesting mostly because of the upcoming TDL and how the Canucks approach them.
I see lots of experimentation going on. Even when something is working it gets changed.
There does seem to be some "highlighting" of potential trade assets.

Joshua and Soucy should not make that big a difference to the team, if their impact is that big to the overall performance and results then the team is no where near ready to become a CUP contender.

Tocchet's comments about players being tired doesn't bode well for extended overtime games where teams lacking scoring can sit back and wear a team down.

LA could be considered desperate but they are in a pretty good position for a WC spot.
LA has been in the rumour mill for a goalie for a couple of seasons so the Canucks should have the upper hand.

If you dont think that Joshua and Soucy make an impact/difference in the squad..Tells me you're not really paying attention.

Yeah. The loss of Joshua seems to have had a larger effect than I would have expected, because it seemed to knock that entire no name line out. It coincided exactly with our slump, and you can't argue with results.

The Kings are locked into another slump......just a totally inconsistent team that cost McLellan his job.

The Pierre Luc Dubois trade is bordering on a disaster for the Kings--and the Winnipeg Jets will sending an Xmas card to Kings GM Rob Blake for the next decade.

And the way Brock Faber has come on for the Wild, the Kevin Fiala deal isn't looking that great either. Especially because it also cost them a 2022 first round draft pick.

To compound things for the Kings, arguably their best player Adrian Kempe left last night's game against Calgary with some sort of injury. Not sure of his status for tomorrow night's game.

The pressure is definitely on Blake and the Kings. If they falter and miss the playoffs we might see a house-cleaning the likes of the one in Vancouver a few seasons back.
You're bang on. Add to this than Mikey Anderson has been out and the Kings D is very scrambled without him. FYI Kempe definitely is out long term.

If they made that big a difference in the easy season, then the team will be lucky to win 3 playoff games. Playing at a .500 point percentage which means nothing for the real season.

I've heard the Kings are after Tofolli. Damn Benning, we could have had Tofolli for free next year, but we got the ghost of OEL instead. :thumbd:

I think he'd be a great target if we're looking for forward help. He can handle the tough stuff, he's a gamer, and he can score in any number of ways. Guy just exudes hockey and is passionate about the game. Can't believe he's bounced around so much.

Benning has been purged! VANmen!

The Pens' game was the first one in a while that I felt the team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory purely through self-sabotage. I hope the boys are clinical tonight in response.

Statement game tonight morale-wise. First time playing each other.

Need a regulation win over a team we might be seeing in the 1st round. A win in our barn and another next week in LA sends a message. Talbot has been successful against us in the past. This is a new season.
