Heading into the trade deadline, the worst team on the league BY FAR to the shock of absolutely nobody is......the Ottawa Senators. The Sens have a staggering 34 by the trade deadline, 2nd last in the league are the Monarchs with a, by comparison, respectable 50 points. 3rd last are the Kings in hot pursuit with 51 points.
Leading the league with a truly staggering 97 points are the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite that, they're only 1 point ahead of Carolina with 96 points, finally followed by Philadelphia with 86 points. The Metro is stacked.
Due to his cap hit, A. Johnsson has poor trade value, but he still has room to grow. Hoping that pays off.
Garland still has room to grow, but with a team offering a 1st for him in a good draft, I had to take it.
I acquired Duclair in hopes to re-signing him as he has the potential to grow, but he showed no interest in re-signing with me, and with him being an rfa, I can't take the chance in losing assets, so I had to flip him.
And lastly, very surprised someone wanted Backes with no salary retention.
Arizona also making a push in a blockbuster that saw them very surprisingly take back Lucic.
Another huge surprise to see Ottawa taking on Ladd.
And lastly, LA getting good value out of the Georgiev trade it seems.
Something to note for the end of the year: Ottawa with no lottery movement, holds picks #1 & #4 (SJS). Truly a favourable position.
Well with a huge upset in the finals, the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup. They were the 2nd worst team to get in (just ahead of Edmonton, and edging out Colorado for the last wild card spot).
Of note, the cap is 87M for next season, which is a crazy +5.5M to the cap from the previous season.

Following them were...the LA kings with 61 points.
Then followed by the BC Monarchs with 63 points.
Leading the league in points however were the Pittsburgh Penguins with a wild 129 points, amassing 63 wins in the season.
The Carolina Hurricanes were 2nd in the league with 115 points.
3rd were the Washington Capitals with 110 points.
Player Stats
Leading the league in goals with no surprise is A. Ovechkin, getting 65 goals this season.
The next closest was E. Malkin getting a paltry 54 goals in comparison.
Malkin however leads the league in points with a nice 118 points.
2nd in league scoring is S. Crosby with 114 points. No wonder Pittsburgh dominated the league.
3rd in league scoring was J. Eichel with 112 points. Despite his effort, he couldn't drag Buffalo to the playoffs.

Anyone ever run into the issue of the game not letting you call up a player. He is still QMJHL eligible but its preseason so I was looking to call him up.
Whenever I attempt to bring him up I get the message "these moves will result in your team being over the allowable contract limit".
I only have 20 players on the roster and I have no issue calling up any other players. Also I had no issue bringing up a kid from the WHL, but for some reason I won't let me bring up the player from the Q.

BREAKING NEWS: Jeff Gorton steps down as Rangers General Manager
Setup
Despite some fantastic work over the summer, Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton has stepped down from his position with the team, for undisclosed reasons. John Davidson and Glen Sather have pegged rookie GM Brant King to take over duties, while he will have Chris Drury at his disposal as Assistant GM and GM of Hartford.
GMBK has some huge shoes to fill, after Gorton added Artemi Panarin, Jacob Trouba, Julien Gauthier and drafted Kaapo Kakko all this offseason. The Rangers are primed to have success this season, as the look into the future showed when they were 37-28-4 in March and still hanging around the Playoff picture.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers acquire package including Brendan Guhle from Ducks for Howden, Libor Hajek
Setup
In a smaller dela that had various moving pieces, the Rangers mvoed on from two young players in Lias Andersson and Libor Hajek, getting back former draft pick Michael Del Zotto, as well as forward David Backes (50% retained) and defensive prospect Brendan Guhle.
GM Brant King
Guhle is a guy who will be ready to come in on the left side very soon. Both Brett and Libor will do great things in his NHL career. It is why we targeted them in the McDonagh-Miller deal, and it's why Anaheim wanted them.
We'd also like to welcome David to NY, and we will value his leadership and expereince dearly as this team takes the next steps. Welcome back to New York MDZ, we look forward to you beginning the next part of your career.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers acquire Tolvanen from Preds for Buchnevich, Andersson, Sjalin
Setup
In GM Brant Kings first major move, he dealt forward Pavel Buchnevich to the Nashville Predators, along with young forward Lias Andersson and
young prospect Calle Sjalin for prospect Eeli Tolvanen and forward Auston Watson.
The moves seems like a step backward for a team that is ready to make a push, but GM Brant King cited a need to look at both present and future when making decisions like this.

Here we have a player who, even though he is still young, we know what he is. We get offered a player that is under contract for the same amount of time, will require less money in his next contract, and has a higher ceiling. We think Eeli can contribute immediately, and in the long run will contribute more.
Lias is a great kid, but it was his time to get a different look for his career. His situation is kind of similar to Eeli's, who comes here looking for a better opportunity. Calle is a great prospect and we wish him the best.
Auston has had some personal problems, but he's gotten help and we look forward to having him in the fold.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers deal Georgiev to Wings for Cholowski
Setup
The New York Rangers three headed goalie conundrum has been solved. Alexandar Georgiev has been dealt to the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for defender Dennis Cholowski.
Cholowski, 21, is a defender with definite top-4 potential, a good trade off for a goaltender who's path to becoming starter was blocked by the best goaltender in franchise history and the heir apparent to his throne.
BREAKING NEWS: Thomas Vanek signs with Rangers
Setup
Despite many pundits lauding GMBK for his work in getting yet another elite prospect in Eeli Tolvanen, the move did leave an immediate hole in the Rangers top-6. Weary of placing Kaapo Kakko immeidately into unsteady waters as a rookie and a newcomer to NA, they decided to sign veteran Thomas Vanek to a 1-year deal.

In the Season Opener, the New York Rangers beat down the flightless Jets in a 7-2 thrashing.
Leading the way was Ryan Strome (1-3--4) and Artemi Panarin (1-2--3), while Free Agent signing Thomas Vanek also scored twice. Eeli Tolvanen registered his first career NHL goal, as did Adam Fox and Julien Gauthier in the win. Tony DeAngelo (0-2--2), Filip Chytil (0-2--2) and Jacob Trouba (0-2--2) also had multi-point eff orts in the victory.
Henrik Lundqvist started off his 15th NHL season strong, stopping 24/26 for his 450th NHL win, placing him 6th all-time in that regard.
BREAKING NEWS: Igor Shesterkin records firts career shutout, win

The Rangers (2-2-0), relied on a strong performance form rookie phenom Igor Shesterkin to get them back in the win column following two loses and a combined 9-goals against.
The 23-year old stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn his first NHL win and first NHL shutout, just three days after surrendering 5 goals in his first start.
Jacob Trouba scored the only goal in the 1-0 win for the Rangers.
BREAKING NEWS: Strome, Shesterkin lifts Rangers over Canes
Nov. 7th, 2019
Ryan Strome has been the MVP of the New York Rangers to date. The 26-year old scored yet another goal, his 9th of the season, and tops the Rangers with 16 points. His goal helped the Rangers defeat the Divison-leading Hurricanes 2-1, a much needed win for a Rangers group that was on a 3-game losing streak.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 30/31 for his first quality start since his win in Game 4. The Rangers have missed Jacob Trouba and Adam Fox at times early this season, and their defensive game has struggled without them.
The Rangers now sit 6-6-2, good for 4th in the Metropolitan.
BREAKING NEWS: Zibanejad, Shesterkin help Rangers top Pens

The Rangers have now won three straight, following three straight losses. This one was a convincing 4-1 win over the Penguins, who sit above the Rangers in the standings.
Mika Zibanejad had his best game of the season with 1 goal and 1 assist, while Igor Shesterkin was incredible yet again, stopping 35/36 (.972 SV%) for his third straight win.
BREAKING NEWS: Strome stars again as Rangers rout Bruins

In a thrilling game - if you were a Rangers fan - the underdogs stunned the Bruins en route to a 6-1 victory. The Blueshirts were relentless from start to finish, outshooting the Bruins 33-29 and outchancing them significantly.
Igor Shesterkin has found a groove, providing another excellent start, while Ryan Strome continued his breakout season with 2 more goals. Adam Fox also had a 2 point night (1-1--2), while Thomas Vanek, Tony DeAngelo and Chris Kreider all had 2 assists.
Julian Gauthier, Jacob Trouba and Filip Chytil also scored for the Rangers (12-10-2).
BREAKING NEWS: Shesterkin continues brilliance in win over Jackets

Igor Shesterkin was always going to take the #1 role over from Henrik Ludnqvist, but no one expected it quite this soon. The netminder won his 4th consecutive start, playing steady if unspectacular in nets while allowing the offense to do its thing.
The Rangers blasted the Jackets 7-1, with Ryan Strome havign 3 points to eclipse the 30 point mark in just 27 games. Thomas Vanek scored twice (2-1--3) as did Adfam Fox (2-0--2). Filip Chytil and Tony DeAngelo each had 3 assists, while Kaapo Kakko scored once and had an assist too.
The Rangers now have a record of 15-10-2, which is good enough for 4th in the Metropolitan.
BREAKING NEWS: Lundqvist answers bell with shutout over Ducks

Apparently the King heard the noise that Shesterkin was taking over, because when he faltered, the King rose. The 37-year old stopped all 29 shots sent his way, while the Rangers scored 6 goals to down the Ducks 6-0.
Filip Chytil (1-2--3) and Thomas Vanek (1-2--3) led the way for the Rangers, while Julien Gauthier and Tony DeAngelo also scored. Ryan Strome accounted for the other 2 goals, continuing his torrid pace.
The Rangers now sit 17-12-3, and 3rd in the Metropolitan. They are just 2 points behind the firts place Hurricanes, while also being just 2 ahead of the 5th place Jackets, as the Metropolitan is a heated race.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers move into 1st on back of Chris Kreider

In easily his biggest, best performance of the season, Chris Kreider placed the weight of New York on his back and lifted the Rangers to 1st in the Metropolitan after a 6-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kreider may have had 3 points (1-2--3), but he was not alone in this one. Ryan Strome continued his All-Star worthy season with 2 more goals, while rookie Eeli Tolvanen had 3 assists. Jacob Trouba, Julien Gauthier and Ryan Lindgren also scored in the win.
Henrik Lundqvist earned his 3rd consecutive win and made 24 saves (.889 SV%).
BREAKING NEWS: Kakko hattrick extends Rangers winning streak

The New York Rangers have had many assuring performances this season, but perhaps none has flown under the radar quite like rookie Kaapo Kakko's. The 18-year old scored his first career hattrick in a 6-5 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks to extend the Rangers winning streak to 5 games.
Filip Chytil had 3 assists, all on his linemates goals. Thomas Vanek continued his great season, adding 2 more assists, bring his seasons point total to 34 (in 35 games). Artemi Panarin and Jesper Fast also scored for the Rangers.
Henrik Lundqvist got the win, but it certainly wasn't pretty. Igor Shesterkin will get the next start as his veteran mentor seems tired from the long string of starts.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers burn Leafs to extend point streak to 8 games

These Rangers, wow. After having their winning streak broken in a heartbreaking shootout loss to the Flyers (the team trailing them), they returned to the win column with back-to-back wins over the Hurricanes and Leafs.
Henrik Lundqvist, after posting a shutout against Carolina, stopped 23/25 (.920 SV%) in the second half of the back-to-back, earning his 6th consecutive win.
Ryan Strome (2-1--3), Artemi Panarin (0-3--3) and Tony DeAngeo (0-3--3) led the way for New York, while Mika Zibanejad has a goal and an assist. Thomas Vanek and Kaapo Kakko each had 1 goal and 1 assist.
The Rangers now have a 3-point cushion atop their divison, with a record of 22-12-4.

While the Rangers know Shesterkin's time will tell, Lundqvist has made it clear his time is still now. The Rangers are in a very good spot with two capable goaltenders.

Mika Zibanejad has struggled significantly this season. Ryan Strome will tail off at somepoint, so it is paramount to the Rangers season that Zibanejad heat up over the second half. Kaapo Kakko sits 4th in rookie scoring, 5 points behind defenseman Quinn Hughes for the lead. Kakko should be safe to be a nominee for the Calder Trophy, but Hughes will be a hard task to beat.
Jesper fast, David Backes, Brendan Lemieux and Auston Watson have been fine depth options.
In the AHL Hartford, the Wolf Pack currently sit 2nd in their divsion, just 1 point behind the Hershey Bears for 1st.
Vitali Kravtsov has adjusted just fine to North America, with 20 points in 36 games (6-14--20). Defensive prospects acquired before the season Brendan Guhle has 18 points in 36 games, and is a +10.

Excellent! I would like your posts, but I currently cannot due to a big bad mod. I might steal some of your tables, like the team stats. Always good stuff.
My only possible guess is contract slots. You might be at 50 or so, with the Q contract sliding, giving you freedom. Maybe you had just enough room for the WHL player? Sending the W player back down to the WHL, simming a day, then trying the Q player may work, but that's only me brainstorming. I've never dealt with something like that.

For sure! The tables suck to make, but it lays it out pretty clearly. I copy and paste the table and just move aroujnd anme sand sub numbers as opposed to re-creating the entire table every time, takes so much time.
Also, if anyone has any ideas for me to incorporate/make my posts more enjoyable, let me know. Always looking to improve my writing.

It wasn't the defesnes or Henrik Lundqvists best night, but it was certainly Artemi Panarins. The superstar has a hattrick and added two assists (3-2--5) to lift the Rangers to a high scoring victory over their Hudson River Rivals.
Ryan Strome had 3 asssits, while Mika Zibanejad had a goal and 2 assists. Adam Fox (1-2--2), Eeli Tolvanen (1-1--2), Kaapo Kakko (1-0--1) and Jacob Trouba (1-0--1) also scored for the Rangers.
BREAKING NEWS: Kakko stars as Rangers outlast Wings

Kaapo Kakko continued his strong rookie season with a 3-point effort to help the Rangers defeat the Red Wings 7-6 in the shootout. The Rangers have now been involved in three games where both teams have scored 6 or more goals (previously won and lost 8-6).
Tony DeAngelo scored twice, while Eeli Tolvanen, Ryan Strome and Mika Zibanejad also scored.
The Rangers improved to 30-16-4, as they and the Flyers pull away from the rest of the divison and compete for 1st.
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers ship Smith, 2021 2nd to Kings
Feb. 9th
With the breakout seasons of Ryan Strome and Tony DeAngelo, it is becoming evident to the Rangers that it will take significant money to re-sign them, but that task is a must.
So, defenseman/left-winger hybrid Brendan Smith fell victim to the Salary Cap as the Rangers attached a 2nd rounder in next years Draft to him and shipped him out West.
Forward Ryan White and a 6th round pick in 2020 comes back to NY.
And so begins the preparation for this summer.
BREAKING NEWS: Vanek continues strong season in win over Bruins
Feb. 16th, 2020
Nearing the Trade Deadline, some performances down the stretch will determine how the Rangers conduct their business. On eof those cases is Thomas Vanek, who has assuredly priced himself out of NY next season as his strong season coincides with the impending raises of Strome and DeAngelo.
Vanek, a veteran of NHL seasons, scored 2 more goals in the 6-5 win over the Bruins, bringing his season total to 24. The 36-year old has 54 points in 58 games, already just 2 behind his total from 17/18 in 80 games. Will an incoming offer be too good to pass up? Or will the Rangers hold onto him as a self-rental and maybe even add?
Mika Zibanejad (1-2--3) had 3 points in the win, while Artemi Panarin (1-1--2), Eeli Tolvanen and Brendan Lemieux also scored.
BREAKING NEWS: Shesterkin 1st star in 5-0 beatdown of Blackhawks

After Henrik Lundqvist struggled and was saved by the offense in Boston, Igor Shesterkin got his chance in nets. He did not disappoint, stopping all 31 pucks thrown his way en route to his 2nd career shutout. He earned himself another start next game, as David Quinn said to keep both fresh come crunch time, the "hot hand" will start.
Ryan Strome had yet another fantastic game, with 3 points (1-2--3). Adam Fox continued his strong rookie season with 2 points of his own (1-1--2), while Julien Gauthier, Artemi Panarin and Tony DeAngelo also scored.
Dennis Cholowski left the game with a LBI and will be out 3-5 weeks. Marc Staal will take his place in the lineup.
The Rangers trail the Flyers for 1st in the Metro by 4 points, but have opened up a gap of 8 points between them and the 3rd place Blue Jackets.

McKenzie: Well James, the Rangers felt they should add some veteran assurance up front as they rely heavily on their young players who have little to no Playoff experience. Brant King accomplished that by acquiring Joe Thornton from the San Jose Sharks for defensive prospect Tarmo Reunanen. Also included in the deal was a swap of prospects Ty Ronning (to SJS) and Jonathan Dahlen (to NYR)
Dreger: The Rangers were not done there though James, they also sent their 1st Round pick to the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Jonas Brodin. Brodin is under contract for next season as well, at a cap hit of just over $4.0M. The Rangers still have Carolina's 1st Round Pick.
LeBrun: Finally, the Rangers parted ways with pending UFA Jesper Fast. After bringing in Joe Thornton, there was just no room for a guy they call Quickie anymore, who struggled mightily this season. Petrus Palmu comes back from the Vancouver Canucks.
Ferraro: The Rangers are one of my winners today for sure. They added center depth, upgraded a weakness and got a prospect back for a non-fit. All three deals are overwhelming yes' in my opinion. A very stout job from a rookie GM.
O'Neil: I mean, for this year you are absolutely correct. But I don't see how you can call the Brodin trade a win for sure until you see the impact it has on their offseason. This is a team that's already facing a huge crunch, will lose Vanek and Thornton, and still has to find a way to sign two guys who are in the midst of their best seasons. Brodin's salary could be a major problem for them.
McGuire: IF you're the Rangers though, you aren't concerned about that right now. They will have options this summer. Buyouts, trades, they will find a way to do what needs to be done. For me, this is about getting these young guys Playoff experience with a deep run now, even if they don't believe this is their year.
Poulin: There have long been rumors that Thornton would be in NY. Now, he and Lundqvist can chase that Cup together. Brodin is a guy who is an upgrade over all their LHD, and even if its a blip for this offseason, upgrading a position of weakness in such a substantial way for a pick that could be in the 20's in a great tradeoff. As for Fast, the possibility of this outcome was obviously weighing on his mind, as the normally incredible defensive forward was a -21. Get a shot in the dark for an asset with no value to you. I agree with Ray, these deals are all wins, and the Rangers are better off now that when the day began.

In a game where everything finally went right for the Rangers, they made the most of it. To be frank, the team has sucked since the TDL, but taking home 3 out of 4 points against the red-hot Pens and beating the Jackets 7-1 solidifies this team as a contender in the Metro, considering one of those two teams will likely be their 1st round opponent.
Kaapo Kakko had 2 goals and 4 points, while Thomas Vanek had 1 goal and 3 points. Eeli Tolvanen, Ryan Strime, Julien Gauthier and Artemi Panarin also scored in the win. David Backes had 2 assists.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 15/16 to get the Rangers back in the win column, as well as extending their point streak to 5 games.
BREAKING NEWS: Strome helps Rangers clinch Playoffs
March 30th, 2020
A 3-point effort from Ryan Strome (1 goal, 2 assists), along with a 3 assist effort from Artemi Panarin, helped the Rangers hold off a third period surge from the Florida Panthers and clinch a Playoffs spot. Despite entering the third up 4-1, the Rangers only won the game 6-5.
Chris Kreider, David Backes, Kaapo Kakko and Tony DeAngelo also scored for the Rangers, while Mika Zibanejad had 2 asissts.
The Rangers have just 3 games remaining in their season, and need only 1 win or 2 points to clinch 2nd.
BREAKING NEWS: Lundqvist pitches shutout as Rangers clinch Home Ice

In a vintage Henrik Lundqvist performance, the now 38-year old netminder returned to the crease and posted a 32 save shutout over the potent Pittsburgh Penguins to clinch 2nd in the Metro. That position gives the Rangers Home Ice Advantage in the 1st Round of the NHL Playoffs.
Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko scored the goals in the 2-0 win.

Tony DeAngelo slowed as the overall offense slowed, but the 24-year old cemented himself as a valuable piece of the long-term future of this franchise, without a doubt. His partner for most of the season, rookie Adam Fox, also had an incredible season of his home, and surpassed Jacob Trouba as the teams unquestioned #1 defenseman.
Jacob Trouba struggled in his first season in New York, and never really emshed with intended partner Jonas Brodin, who struggled coming in after the deadine.
Ryan Lindgren was a pleasant surprise, while Dennis Cholowski did not fit in like hoped. He could definitely see himself as trade bait this summer with Brendan Guhle waiting in the wings.

If Henrik Lundqvist and/or Igor Shesterkin are not at the top of their games and the offense falters in any way, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and co. will victimize them.

BREAKING NEWS: Winnipeg Jets win first Stanley Cup in Franchise history
End of Playoffs
Perhaps no fans (sorry Oilers and Leafs fans) are more deserving of a Stanely Cup parade than the Winnipeg Jets fans. Always loyal, and enthusiastic, the people that make the white-out happen come Playoff time have finally gotten their reward.
The Winnipeg Jets were 3rd seed in the Central Division, but outlasted the Colorado Avalanche in 6 games to move onto the 2nd round. They then swept the division-leading Blackhawks in shocking fashion, and again swept the WC Sharks in the conference finals.
Well rested heading into the Stanley Cup Finals, they matched up against the juggernaut Lightning, who are always everyones pick to win the Cup. Conn Smythe winner Blake Wheeler (9-16--25) led the Jets, with the help of some spectacular goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck (.918 SV%, 16-4), led the Jets to a 6 game series win and a Stanley Cup Championship.
BREAKING NEWS: Zdeno Chara, Marian Gaborik announce retirements from NHL
NHL Offseason News
Zdeno Chara retires from the NHL with a Stanley Cup to his name and 1560 games split across the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins. His 1560 games places him 14th all time.
Former Ranger Marian Gaborik enjoyed multiple 40-goal seasons with the club, and retires with over 1000 games in the NHL and 815 points (407-408--815).
Also retiring are defensemen Dan Hamhuis (1100 GP) and Andy Greene (879 GP), as well as forward Kyle Bordziak (917 GP).

In a shocking move, voters awarded the Hart and Ted Linsday to Mikko Rantanen despite linemate Nathan MacKinnon winning the Art Ross and Rocket Richard. Normally having two superstars hurts eachothers cases, but apparently this is not the case.
Quinn Hughes, as predicted, won the Calder, with Kakko finishing a distant 2nd in voting and Cale Makar finishing 3rd.
BREAKING NEWS: Staal waives NMC, shipped with Cholowski to Wild
NHL Entry Draft
After playing just 9 games in the 2019-2020 NHL Season, Marc Staal waived his NMC for a new chance at NHL life. He goes to Minnesota and joins brother Eric with the Wild.
Attached to Staal for taking his salary, promising defenseman Dennis Cholowski moves on to his third NHL franchise. The defender lost his footing in Detroit and never found it in New York. Here's to hoping he can find it with a new look in Minnesota.

This is a business decision, and a personal decision for Marc. We knew he would only waive to play with one of his brothers, and he can do that in Minnesota.
Dennis is a great kid, and now that Jonas is here in NY, there seems to be a great chance for him behind Suter in Minnesota. He will do great things in the NHL.

The New York Rangers were gifted an elite player when Tim Stutzle fell into their laps at 13th overall in the Draft. They followed this up by hitting a home run in the third round, selecting Jan Mysak.
Draft guru Craig Button says the Rangers get an A+ grade, due to the combined fortune of Stutzle falling and their late round Draft success.
Stutzle projects as a future #1 centerman. The native of Germany is a big-bodied centerman who models his game after countryman Leon Draisaitl.

The team and Ryan Strome decided to go to arbitration. The result was a 1-year deal with a salary of $8.500M. The forward was on pace for 100-points at the halfway mark, but slowed in the second half. He still psoted a respectable 31 points over the final 41 games. This contract will allow the Rangers to see if Strome can replicate last seasons success.
Tony DeAngelo earne dhis payday, and the Rangers could not refuse. The tantalizing offensive defensmena has rounded out his game defensively, and has come into his own offensively to make himself invaluable to the Rangers. He should be in New York for a long time, as he can play both the left side and the right side.
The team could not come to terms with UFA forward Thomas Vanek prior to the UFA period. Vanek enjoyed an extremely successful year in New York, but the Rangers are not in a financial position to extend him at his ask.

Meanwhile, Former Florida Panthers Mike Hoffman (DET) and Evgenii Dadonov (NSH) have signed long term deals. Top defender on the market Alex Pietrangelo took up their vacated cap space in Sunrise, signing a 6-year deal.

In other news, Kevin Shattenkirk turned his 1-year deal with Tampa into a payday in New Jersey, with a 4 year deal. Another defenseman, T.J Brodie, has moved to the other side of the battle of Alberta, and will help solidify the RHD side of the Oilers as he can play his off-side. We've also learned that forward Mikael Granlund has signed in Anaheim.
Miller: The Rangers feel they have the elite pieces to contend, it just happens that they are younger. So, it appears they have used the 2020 Free Agency period to add veteran help. They've signed a pair of elder statesmen in Ron Hainsey and Patrick Marleau. They've also agreed to terms with depth defenseman Mark Borowiecki.
McLennan: I cna say with certainty the most impactful signing will be Markstrom in Vancouver. He is going to bring that team back to relevance in a big way. That being said, I'm a huge fan of what the Rangers did here guys. Marleua and Hainsey aren't going to be gamebreakers, but they provide the voice that can help the young guys like Chytil, Tolvanen and Kravtsov develop into those guys.
Poulin: The Rangers were knocked out early this year by a more experience Pens team. I know it's not the same magnitude as the Cup Finals, but is it possible that the Rangers experience somewhat of what the Pens got from the Wings in 2008. They lost and learned to come back and win in '09. I could see the Rangers making a serious run now that guys have gotten a short taste of Playoffs.
Biron: I still have questions about their defense, and there is a lot of money still needing to be thrown around this time next year for them, but the Rangers certainly look like a safe bet to be a contender this season. I was contemplating trading Petan because of his contract demands, but figured I would hold off for now as he's an RFA still. Thankfully players like Cousins (was among my leading scorers) and Smith had very good trade value which helped make my decision about hanging onto Petan for now.
Was quite pleased to turn a long shot in Delemont into Getzlaf, and then into Broberg, with just 1 extra season of Kesler.
Finishing dead last in the league was the much expected BC Monarchs, with 59 points. Following them was Ottawa with 68 points. A surprising 3rd last was Winnipeg with 73 points.
There are some positive and negatives here. Monarchs are fairly even in terms of on the road and at home, which are both...bad. Goals against and goals for are near the bottom of the league, however the powerplay is middle of the pack, and the penalty kill is in the right half of middle of the pack.
Leading the league in points with a fairly average 108 points are the Washington Capitals. Following them is Colorado with 107 points. Rounding out the top 3 is Pittsburgh with 106 points, while missing their #1 goalie.

I have been playing as the wings (simming 90% of the season and playing a few games) and trying to rebuild it thru drafting. Second worst team and could only get 4th overall pick every time I tried. Ended up acquiring 4 #1 picks for 2021 draft from trading any vets or young guys I don't see on the team in the future. I signed Pietrangelo to a 1 year deal hoping to flip him at the deadline for more picks/prospects. Probably 1 more year away from being very competitive.

Been a pretty busy last week. Went from day parties at my university on Saturday to finding out around noon classes were cancelled and we were told we could go home. Res life came to an end pretty abruptly, but life is more important. In the hungover hustle on Sunday to leave, I unplugged my Xbox without saving my file. Lost another GM.
This is all tiny considering the coronavirus obviously. Finally just about settled in and set up with my job again, so should have plenty of free time to start another GM mode and be posting again soon. All my classes have switched to an on your own online basis, so its pretty easy to find time to balance work, school and play.
Don't know where you are all from, but hopefully you are all safe and taking precautions.

@TheNotReal Bob McKenzie: Big news coming of the NHL Head office today... Seattle is coming in THIS YEAR. Major shock, will play out of the T-Birds Arena for now until Key Center is ready.
@DarrenDreger: I can confirm what is out there, Seattle is coming into the league. Also, rumblings in Detroit that Steve Yzerman is going to be leaving the Wings Organization... stay tuned.
