:rangers have a trade to announce.

The New York Rangers have traded a 2013 4th round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron. Bergeron, 32, has 1 goal, 5 points and is a +3 in 12 games this season. GM Zenith spoke on the trade:

"We're glad to acquire a player like Bergeron. We believe he'll add another element to our currently struggling power play. He's not going to play much at even-strength, but we badly needed a player that could shoot the puck from the point, and we got that player in Bergeron."

It sounds like more will be released out of the Rangers camp shortly.

:bolts confirm. We expect this to be our only trade of the game since we just dealt our biggest piece.

Anyone interested in Roberto Luongo, let me know, working closer to a deal before the deadline. Looking to get back an NHL ready center as part of any deal.

Also listening to offers on Cory Schneider although it will take a great offer for me to move him.

:rangers have a blockbuster trade to announce.

The New York Rangers have traded right winger Marian Gaborik to the Vancouver Canucks for left winger Mason Raymond and center Jordan Schroeder. The Rangers will also retain $1.5M of Gaborik's salary.

GM Zenith spoke about the transaction:

"The Rangers are happy to announce the acquisition of Schroeder and Raymond for Gaborik. Gaborik was a fantastic New York Ranger, but it was time to move on, for both of us. His production and his effort have dipped this season. He is still a tremendously talented player, and Vancouver is getting a very good player, but we needed to make the change. Although we're retaining some salary, we've cleared cap space and also acquire a hard working 20g scorer in a position we're lacking depth, and we get a skilled, young player with upside that can play center."

We are very excited to add a gamebreaking talent in Marian Gaborik. We feel he is a great compliment to Ryan Kesler and allows us to roll out two formidable offensive lines. Getting him at $6M per gives us the flexibility next season to fill out our roster while still maintaining our top end players. Moving Raymond and Schroeder wasn't easy, but given Mason's UFA status and Kesler's impending return which in turn bumps Schroeder down we felt we could afford to make this type of move. We thank both of them for their contributions to the Canucks organization.

Isles Get Younger, Trade Captain Mark Streit to Nashville for Craig Smith
144023741-craig-smith-of-the-nashville-predators-looks-gettyimages.jpg

The New York Islanders have traded defenseman Mark Streit to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Craig Smith.

"We're extremely excited to announce the acquisition of Craig Smith. He's been a surprising young talent for the Predators that seems as though he was the odd man out. We're happy to acquire a very versatile player (plays RW, C) for our team who can use some of that now.

"We love Mark, and wish him the best in Nashville and hope he gets a Stanley Cup in the future. He was a great captain and we thank him for all he's done for the New York Islanders organization."

Also included in the deal are forward Johan Sundstrom going to Nashville, and defenseman Charles Olivier-Roussel heading to Long Island. Both will report to their respective AHL clubs.

"Charles is a very good offensive defenseman who was an integral part of a strong Saint John's team. We're happy to acquire him, especially since he has a right handed shot which this organization lacks. The fact that he's been playing in the ECHL doesn't bother us. Andrew MacDonald is a top-4 defenseman in our organization and he played significant time in the ECHL. We believe he can be an NHL player."

NYI LINE UP:
Matt Moulson - John Tavares - Brad Boyes
Josh Bailey - Frans Nielsen - Kyle Okposo
Michael Grabner - Keith Aucoin - Craig Smith
Matt Martin - Casey Cizikas - Colin McDonald
ex. Marty Reasoner
IR: David Ullstrom

Andrew MacDonald - Travis Hamonic
Thomas Hickey - Lubomir Visnovsky
Joe Finley - Matt Carkner
ex. Radek Martinek
IR: Brain Strait

Evgeni Nabokov
Kevin Poulin

Islanders are still looking for a top-4 defensive defenseman, Bailey/Okposo available. PM me.

Asham-Newbury-Tootoo
EX: Darrol Powe, Taylor Pyatt

Staal-Del Zotto
McDonagh-Girardi

EX: Anton Stralman, Matt Gilroy

All of those depth players are available for trade, along with Richards and Girardi. Also, if you're interested in Del Zotto, I COULD move him - would need a young, offensively skilled, already NHL center coming back.

The Dallas Stars were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract with Derek Roy, and we couldn't risk losing him for nothing. He was previously acquired for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy over the summer.

To Dallas: Mark McNeill, Kevin Hayes, Shawn Lalonde

To Chicago: Derek Roy

Mark and Shawn will join the Texas Stars in Austin immediately, and Kevin is still recovering from injury while his team plays in the NCAA tournament.
