Columbus is looking to add a forward...We have plenty of defenceman available.

Jan Hejda -- Pavel Kubina
Fedor Tyutin -- Rostislav Klesla
Braydon Coburn -- Anton Stralman
Kris Russel -- Marc Methot

Guys in bold are available, Hejda will cost the most.

David Booth - Jason Spezza - Daniel Alfredsson
Milan Michalek - Mike Fisher - Alexei Kovalev
Nick Foligno - Peter Regin - T.J. Galiardi
Jarkko Ruutu - Chris Kelly - Chris Neil

Extra: Jesse Winchester, Ryan Shannon

Chris Phillips - Erik Karlsson
Trevor Daley - Andy Sutton
Chris Campoli - Matt Carkner

Brian Elliott
Pascal Leclaire

Total Salary Committed: $56,483,333
Cap Space: $2,241,667

We feel that we have one of the best forward cores in the league, with a good balance of both youth and veteran experience. The addition of David Booth provides us with more options within the top-six, and playing alongside Spezza we see Booth as being able to pot 30 goals easily.

Our defense may look weak, but we feel that we have a great balance on defense in that we have an offensive defenseman placed with a defensive defenseman. Phillips, Sutton and Carkner will all provide a solid defensive presence, while allowing Karlsson, Daley and Campoli to play their offensive games.

Our goaltending problems have finally been solved, with Brian Elliott grabbing the number one reins, Leclaire will be shopped in order for him to go to a better situation.

Prospects Update:

While we dealt away some depth within our prospect pool in Jared Cowen, Jim O'Brien, Brian Lee and Ilya Zubov, we feel that we have an above average influx of talent coming through the pipeline, with Bjugstad, Caporusso and Petersson all projected to pan out as top-six forwards, and Patrick Wiercioch becoming our closet defense prospect to being NHL ready. Robin Lehner will most likely be playing in Binghamton next season, after a solid first year in North America, and he will look to continue his play that has made many dub him as the goaltender of the future in Ottawa.

Top Prospects:
1) Patrick Wiercioch (D)
2) Nick Bjugstad (RW)
3) Robin Lehner (G)
4) Louie Caporusso (C)
5) Jakob Silfverberg (LW/RW)
6) Zach Smith (C)
7) Andre Petersson (LW)
8) Corey Trivino (C)
9) Chris Wideman (D)
10) Eric Gryba (D)

Offseason Trades

To Colorado: rights to Anton Volchenkov, 2011 6th
To Ottawa: T.J. Galiardi

To Florida: Jared Cowen, Brian Lee, Jim O'Brien, Ilya Zubov
To Ottawa: David Booth, Kamil Kreps

To New York Islanders: Filip Kuba
To Ottawa: Corey Trivino, 2011 3rd

To Dallas: 2011 2nd
To Ottawa: Trevor Daley

We would love to hear about how others think we made out this offseason, comments are much appreciated!

You've got a hell of a offense there but your D are awful IMO. Need a puck mover in there.

The Stars have acquired Sheldon Souray from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Karlis Skrastins, Alex Chiasson, and a 1st round pick next summer.

This completes our roster:

gmgame7v6.png

We feel we have one of the best top 6s in the league, in addition to a solid 3rd line that includes the two highest all-time point scorers among active players who will both help Glennie adjust to the NHL. Our 4th line includes 3 excellent workers.

Our defense is significantly upgraded with the additions of Kaberle and Souray.

In net, we now have a legitimate top 10 goaltender, along with an extremely solid backup.

Thoughts?

Forgot to announce the Capitals have also signed LW Fernado Piasni 1 year 1.3 million, he's having a tough time but we feel he would be a good fit on the 3 rd line with Lars Eller and Cody Hodgson,Fernado was amazing for the Oilers in the 2006 cup run and we feel if he plays anywhere near the level he will be considered a bargain.

We feel are top 6 didn't change much, but we feel we have a stronger bottom 6 Hodgson and Eller are both two of the best prospects there are out there and we feel there both NHL ready, while are 4 th line is a great shutdown defenceman.

Are D-core looks worse on paper, but we feel it's more stable,Hedja is a top 10 shutdown defenceman in the game,Burns who was once considered a potential franchise defenceman, injures have slowed Brent down but he's still has great potential.

Are Goaltending is vastly improved,Kipper is a top 10 if not a top 5 goalie in the game and we feel he's going to be great on a great Washington team,Neuvirth is a solid back-up who will play 15+ games this year.

Top 10 prospects:
1.Cody Hodgson
2.John Carlsson
3.Lars Eller
4.Karl Alzner
5.Mark Pysk
6.John Negrin
7.Micheal Neuvirth
8.Teddy Ruth
9.Cody Eakin
10.Andrew Gordon

We feel this is one of the best prospect pools in the game, half of these players will be impact players on our team this year,we feel no other team can contend with are top 6 prospects.

Columbus trades for Dustin Byfuglien, Jordan Schroeder. Sign free agent Shaone Morrisonn.

Columbus signs Shaone Morrisonn to a 1 year, 1.5 million dollar contract.

To Columbus
Dustin Byfuglien
Jordan Schroeder

To Washington
Sammy Pahlsson
Jan Hejda
Teddy Ruth

"Our reasoning behind this trade was to improve on the offensive side of the game. Byfuglien is a big body, who can put the puck in the net. He's tough to play against, and he'll be a key member of our top-9. We feel Jordan Schroeder is NHL-ready and he'll be a member of the Blue Jackets on opening night. He's a highly skilled player, and his speed is what we like most about him. We want to be a fast team, and Schroeder helps us do that."

"Losing Jan Hejda hurts, but we felt we have plenty of NHL quality defenceman so we aren't to bummed about moving him. Teddy Ruth hasn't developed the way we were hoping and he had no future with our club. Pahlsson was a salary dump, and we're happy to get rid of him."

"Shaone Morrisonn is a defenceman who played 18 minutes a night on the Washington Capitals, and he can easily handle 3rd pairing minutes, and we brought him in to lessen the loss of Hejda."

I like your team. But I would worry about the risks of losing Kaberle and Vokoun after season.

Could be a 1 and done and then Stars are looking for 2 key pieces especially goaltending which I would say is not something the Stars have in system (Bachman is meh as far as NHL potential in my opinion)

A Cup Contender - Yes
A longterm threat to teams like LA , Col , Chi , etc - Not sure

Your offense is weaker and your D has 2 ? marks in it. Burns has not progressed and has been effected by his concussions and is a major risk moving forward and Bieksa as you would probably admit (I think you will agree) has shown some inconsistant play this year for Canucks. I would worry about the possibility he has peaked.

Nice farm and the goaltending is better but much like the team they lost to in Finals :)nod:) I think they have taken a step back

Still a cup contender and a top team but not as strong as they were

Care to explain Hedja is the best player in the trade IMO,and Hedja and Ruth are valued higher then Byfuglien and Schroeder while I also get a solid 3 rd liner in Pahlsson.

Jan Hejda has dropped very much in terms of value since his 08-09 season..

I think Montreal is the most improve team. The addition of Downie and Malone is huge to an already underrated team. If you could add another top-pairing defenceman to play with Markov I'd bet on your team winning the cup.

Thanks for the input.

I was thinking really hard about adding another defenseman to play with Markov but I wanted to stay realistic (I don't think it will happen in real life). I've used most of my cap space to bring size and grit to my forwards group.

If needed, I could add a rental at some point in the season since I have some cap space.

My "plan" would take place next year (2011-2012) with Fowler who would make his NHL debuts. Hamrlik and Gill wouldn't be brought back and I would be looking to acquire a big stay-at-home d-man to play with Fowler.
