In another trade, the Buffalo Sabres have traded Thomas Vanek to the New York Islanders for their 2011 first round pick.
Even if there was a risk with such a move, the motivation of this trade was to get another high pick in the 2011 entry draft. We would like to wish Thomas the best of luck in Long Island.
MILLER AND POMINVILLE TO COLORADO, VANEK TO THE ISLANDERS
The Buffalo Sabres have traded goaltender Ryan Miller and forward Jason Pominville to the Colorado Avalanche for forwards Chris Stewart and Peter Mueller, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, goaltender Craig Anderson and Colorado 2011 first round pick.
It was a very difficult decision to move two great team players in Ryan Miller and Jason Pominville. However, it was obvious that our team was going nowhere and we felt it was time to make a major shakeup. We would like to wish Ryan and Thomas the best of luck with the Avalanche. With this trade, we get a lot of assets to work with for now and the future. Chris Stewart was obviously the main piece coming our side. We like everything about his game and we are confident that he will be a dominant force in the NHL. Kevin Shattenkirk is a young defenseman with a lot of upsides. Craig Anderson will split games with Jhonas Enroth until the end of the season. We want Jhonas to take experience and Craig will be a solid mentor. We would also like to welcome Peter Mueller to the organization and we expect good things from him once he will have recovered from his injury. Adding another 2011 first round pick was also very important for us.
Trading Block Update
Looking for a #1 center and top-line winger.
Willing to move a combination of any of the following to get it done:
Kyle Turris
Mikkel Boedker
Viktor Tikhonov
Brett MacLean
Chris Brown
Maxim Goncharov
Michael Stone
Nick Ross
Scottie Upshall
Lee Stempniak
2011 1st
2011 2nd x 2 (own PHX and PHI)
2012 1st
That looks similar to the Tavares trade a couple years back.
To :
Brayden Schenn
Alec Martinez
2011 1st round pick
To :
Stephen Weiss
Bryan McCabe
Although we tried our best to keep Schenn, we are sad to see him go.
This move helps the Kings in many ways. Now we have a very good 2nd line center in Weiss, who is signed for the next couple of seasons, and a veteran leader on the back end, who we hope to re-sign and help mentor Doughty and Johnson.
On the Block:
Alexei Ponikarovsky
Jonathan Quick
Brad Richardson
Trevor Lewis
