Entry Draft Day 1

Though we were hoping the likes of Klim Kostin and Eeli Tolvanen would fall to us, we were still happy to pick up Lias Andersson with the 14th overall pick, a player we believed would go higher. Trading for the 27th overall pick now seems like a good decision, as we thought Matthew Strome would go a bit higher. With those two picks, we think we acquired two future NHLers and restocked the cupboard at left wing and center. Looking ahead, we hope to acquire a goaltender in the next three rounds.

Draft is completed. Check the draft thread OP to see who your team ended up with.

All I can say is.... the results will be very different from the actual 2017 draft.

:habs ACQUIRE LITTLE

The Montreal Canadiens have traded defensemen Noah Juulsen to the Winnipeg Jets for forward Bryan Little.

''Moving Juulsen was a difficult decision considering the bright future he has ahead but we couldn't pass on the opportunity to acquire Little, who was a target at the trade deadline. We believe that he will be a great fit on our first line right wing and that he will be able to help Galchenyuk with the draws when needed. This trade will allow us to move Lehkonen to our third line and have a very impressive top 9. We wish Juulsen all the best with his new organization.''

:habs WEBER IS THE NEW CAPTAIN

The Montreal Canadiens have named defenseman Shea Weber as their new captain, he will replace forward Max Pacioretty.

''This move may be a surprise to a lot of people but we had several discussions with Max since the end of the playoffs. He was a great leader and he will still remain a great leader without the captaincy. In Montreal, the letter comes with a lot of pressure and for the benefit of his career, we believe that it was the right decision. Shea is among the best leaders in the NHL and we are confident that he can be the captain who will lead our solid group to the Stanley Cup in 2017-2018. Max and Brendan (Gallagher) will be the assistants.''

Renaud Lavoie : It will be interesting to see what will happen with Max Pacioretty now that Shea Weber is the new captain of the Habs. I can confirm that they had serious trade talks regarding Pacioretty during the draft but couldn't come to an agreement. While I am told that the Habs aren't making calls, they are definitely still listening to offers.
