Source?
Another move I don't understand because our US based amateur scouting has been fairly poor in the last decade or so. I guess he's doing something right.
McDavid is so good that his ironic nickname is not ironic.McJesus is not overpaid.
Has he? It is not on the website (yet) Maple Leafs Management How do you know this?John Lilley has been promoted to head of amateur scouting, he was our top US scout.
Not that surprising. He was the guy next to Dubas most of the draft along with Pridham.
Although, I don't think Lilley controls our board. It will be either Morrison or Wes Clark who are Director of Player Personnel and Assitant Director of Player Personnel respectively. Who actually controls a teams draft board isn't always visible through their job title. For example, Trevor Timmins runs the Habs board, and his official title is AGM, Gordie Clark runs the Rangers, and his tile is Director of Player Personnel, and Tod Button runs the Flames with his title of Director of Amateur Scouting.
Same tweet @93LEAFS posted above.Has he? It is not on the website (yet) Maple Leafs Management How do you know this?
We literally forced Dave Morrison into the Pro-Scouting gig and brought him back to a position that theoretically will run our draft board. That move was way more questionable than this. This article condemns Lilly and rest of the the US scouts. After reading it you have to ask what he's done to deserve promotion? The others all got fired by Shanny in 2015
Draft Schmaft: A Look Into the Leafs Amateur Scouting Department | Leafs Hub
His only real goals is sign nylander and bring in a RD.
-
Nylander Contract
2 years, 5 million - He bets on him self; Toronto goes for the win in the next 2 years.
3 years, 6 million - Probably the most fair for William and fair for the leafs.
4 years ----------------- No point in letting him go right to UFA.
-
5 years, 6.5 million - Can't see willy doing this.
6 years, 7 million - Yes please.
7 years, 7 million - Yes please.
8 years, 7.25 million - Yes please.
-
Would love to sign Nylander at 7 million for longer term. It will be such a bargain in a few years and we have him for prime years until he's 30!

The Leafs are in amazing shape. We are both setup to compete now, as well as over the next eight years.
We literally forced Dave Morrison into the Pro-Scouting gig and brought him back to a position that theoretically will run our draft board. That move was way more questionable than this.
I wonder how much Dubas is aware of what the ask is or will be from the Big Three? I mean you can have your game plan all mapped out but if one guy goes nuts and demands to be paid $16 million all your planning goes out the window...
I don't see Willy agreeing to that. He'll probably take 6x4 for now, but knows he'll be worth much more (potentially 10mil+) when he's 26-30yrs old & in his prime.
I didn't like Wes Clark as a hire for a high up position prior to Dubas being hired, and I didn't like Morrison's job prior to being promoted back up to this position. I hope both prove me wrong. But, I think with the Leafs budget we could have brought in better people for those positions. You seemed to have positioned yourself perfectly to have a great dig a dubas very soon. You don’t like Morrison in his role now (justifiably maybe) but then you also think that he is a placeholder for Wes Clark who you also dislike a lot. Perfect position to **** on dubas,
well played I can see the chess moves you made really a smart job.

Should also add on, paying them in signing bonuses also gives them serious lockout protection, which other teams may be reluctant to offer. I'd also love to do this, because how much it will piss-off Garry, who caters permanently to the have-nots of the league (where he gets his key 23 to 24 votes from to control the league).Thinking about the structuring of JT's contract, I wonder if that's a bit of insight into what we can expect for signing 16/29/34.
If we use the strategy of paying minimal salary, and heavy on the signing bonuses, front-loading those, that could be where MLSE puts its financial muscle to good work.

That gets the 4 Horsemen signed for a combined $35.25M AAV between 2019-20 and 2025-26. Obviously, the numbers won't be exactly the same, but it gives you an idea of what might be possible and how we can possibly keep their AAVs at a reasonable number. Basically, you give them their UFA values during the first 4 years of all their contracts, and their RFA values in the final 4, and maximize it by giving as much Signing Bonus as possible. Any other team, it'd be really difficult to pay that much on July 1 each year, but this is one of those areas where the Leafs can really use their finances to their advantage.[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Oh, I know they will try to somewhat restrict them in the CBA. I'm sure Bettman hates the lockout protection we gave JT. Its a tool we can use to our advantage and should. Although, it can backfire when you give a terrible secondary player a buy-out proof deal.To be fair, the best teams in the league all took advantage of the lifetime contract loophole during the last cba. The fact we can outmuscle teams in this way is just taking advantage of a loophole until it’s closed. Signing bonuses are likely going to be the leagues biggest sticking point going forward, might as well take advantage while we can.
I'm just going to quickly point this out. But, with a guy like Lilley, who got put into a significant role under Hunter, it is hard to fully pinpoint what they are responsible for. Senior scouts (which is what Lilley would have been recently) are commonly used in cross-checking roles, where they go and oversee players other scouts in regions like and would be a constant feature at events like Hlinka, 4 Nations u-18, 5 Nations u-18, and the U-18's.John Lilley is the new director of amateur scouting for the Leafs. Lilly's been with the organization since 06-07

Not a lot of NHL players and the Bigg miss doesn't look good either. We usually don't pick from the US programs until the middle of the draft but the last time we picked legitimate NHLers was a decade ago... Would like to see more overage NCAA-based picks, but with where the Leafs usually pick, not a ton of talent is left on the draft board.
