Three days before the start of Vikings training camp, rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison has been cited for speeding and reckless driving, as ESPN reported, after Minnesota State Patrol pulled him over for driving 140 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone.

Addison, 21, drafted No. 23 overall this April, was driving a Lamborghini Urus, a "super sport SUV" , just after 3 a.m. in St. Paul when State Patrol officers engaged him for a traffic stop. Addison's vehicle was going 85 mph above the limit on Interstate 94, per the police report. The incident remains an open investigation, but the rookie was issued a citation for the violation.

"We are aware of last night's traffic incident involving Jordan Addison," the Vikings said later Thursday, "and are gathering additional information."

Addison did not take the field for the Vikings' organized team activities or minicamp practices out of precaution for an undisclosed injury, but he partook in rookie minicamp and is expected to have a sizable role opposite star receiver Justin Jefferson. With veteran Adam Thielen gone, the first-round USC product has been widely projected as Minnesota's new No. 2 receiver.

He and the rest of the Vikings' rookies are scheduled to report to training camp on Sunday.
He spent his rookie contract on a car. He’ll be broke before he retires.

Aqib Talib's brother pleaded guilty yesterday to murder charges.

from espn.com

The brother of retired NFL cornerback Aqib Talib has pleaded guilty to murder in the 2022 shooting death of a coach at a youth football game in Texas, prosecutors said.

Yaqub Salik Talib, 40, pleaded guilty Thursday to the charge in the shooting of 43-year-old Michael Hickmon, according to Claire Crouch, a spokesperson for the Dallas County District Attorney's office. She said Talib agreed to a sentence of 37 years in prison and that he will be sentenced in August.

A lawyer for Talib did not immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment Friday.

In August, police said witnesses saw Talib pull out a gun and repeatedly shoot Hickmon during a brawl among adults at a youth football game in the Dallas suburb of Lancaster. Police said the fight was prompted by a disagreement between the opposing coaching staffs over calls made by the officiating crew, but an official with one of the teams later said it began when Hickmon went to pick up a football and someone kicked it away.

The sons of both Talib brothers played on one of the teams and Hickmon's son played on the other, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Yaqub Talib left the field following the shooting and later turned himself in to police. His lawyer said at the time that his client "regrets the tragic loss of life" but was surrendering to "have the chance to say his side of the story."

Aqib Talib is a five-time Pro Bowler who announced his retirement in 2020. He was named last year as a contributor for Amazon Prime Video's "Thursday Night Football" but left the role following the shooting.

Kansas offensive lineman Joseph Krause was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with "aggravated criminal threat; cause terror, evacuation or disruption," according to documents obtained by Shreyas Laddha of the Kansas City Star. Krause's arrest came hours after an apparent bomb threat was called into the Kansas football facilities.

Kansas athletics and local police declined to confirm that Krause was arrested in connection with the threat against the athletic facilities. The buildings were fully evacuated as law enforcement swept the area. Krause was booked into Douglas County Jail at 4:35 p.m. CT on Monday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the Anderson Family Football Complex, Beatty Family Pavilion and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium were evacuated and checked by law enforcement officers," University of Kansas police chief Damon Tucker told the Kansas City Star. "No devices were found, and police issued an all-clear at approximately 8:01 p.m.

"A subject was identified and arrested for making the threats. Law enforcement will not be releasing the name of the suspect at this time."

Krause was set to enter his fourth season with the program after walking on with the Jayhawks in the Class of 2020 from Shawnee Mission East (Kansas). He appeared in two games for Kansas as a true freshman but did not play each of the past two seasons.

from nfl.com:

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was suspended for the first three games of the 2023 regular season by the NFL on Friday for violating the league's personal conduct policy, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons was also suspended for three games for his role in the incident, the team announced on Friday.

The violations stem from a February 2022 battery arrest in Las Vegas, which Kamara resolved on July 11 when he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace.

Kamara was ordered to complete 30 hours of community service and pay victim Darrell Greene restitution in the amount of $105,196.17 for past due medical expenses. Kamara also was fined $500. With the plea, Kamara avoided a potential felony battery charge, which would have carried a maximum five-year sentence.

Kamara, 27, will be eligible to return for the Saints in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will miss games against the Titans, Panthers and Packers.

Kamara pleaded not guilty to the original charges of misdemeanor conspiracy to commit battery and felony battery resulting in substantial bodily harm on March 2.

Kamara and three others, including Lammons, were faced with charges for allegedly punching and kicking Greene outside a Las Vegas nightclub during the 2022 Pro Bowl weekend. Kamara, who played in the Pro Bowl on Feb. 6, 2022, was arrested following the game along with the other defendants and indicted on Feb. 16 of this year.

According to the police report, surveillance video corroborated Greene's allegations to police that Greene was punched by Lammons and kicked by multiple people.

Greene suffered an orbital fracture to his right eye, per the police report. He filed a civil lawsuit seeking $10 million that was settled confidentially.

Ruggs sentenced to 3 to 10 years for drunk driving crash.

from cbssports.com:

henry-ruggs.jpg

After former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III pleaded guilty in May in a Clark County District Court to a felony charge of DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter, he was sentenced on Wednesday to 3 to 10 years in prison.

Ruggs was accused of driving up to 156 miles per hour down residential streets, with a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 percent (twice the legal limit), at the time of a crash that resulted in the deaths of a 23-year-old woman, Tina Tintor, and her dog in November 2021. He was initially charged with DUI, reckless driving, and possession of a firearm while under the influence, and was released by the Raiders in the immediate wake of the charges.

At sentencing, Ruggs read a statement that he said was for the family and parents of Tintor. "I sincerely apologize for my actions the morning of Nov. 2, 2021," he read, according to a local CBS News station."My actions are not a true reflection of me."

Ruggs' attorney said of his client that Ruggs is a "kind, shy, extremely bright, and thoughtful young man." He added, "Make no mistake he takes full responsibility for this."

District Attorney Steven B. Wolfson released a statement after the May hearing at which Ruggs pleaded guilty. "I recognize this outcome is not sufficient to punish Ruggs for the loss the Tintor family has suffered," the statement said, "but there was a legitimate concern that a court would have suppressed the result of the blood draw. We would have lost the felony DUI charge. We couldn't take that chance. This resolution sends Ruggs to prison for up to 10 years on a felony DUI conviction and brings closure to the Tintor family."

If that's a legit concern, can see why the AD accepted the plea deal. It's been around 20 months since this accident occurred.

Take away for all NFL players, use the ride share program the NFL offers. And make plans while you are SOBER. Plan where you are going. Dinner and a show, you can drive your own car. Clubbing, take a ride share there and back. Leave the car at home, that way you are not tempted at all to drive your car home and not worried about leaving it near the club where it probably gets towed by the next morning.

Despicable plea deal

And the "He takes full responsibility" is a f***ing load of nonsense.

He was driving 156 MPH while drunk and killed this woman

Its great to be rich and famous though. Get best attorneys to guarantee you are not held accountable for actions and plenty of fluff pieces from media to try and potray how you are actually as much a victim as the actual victim

Resolutions to Kamara and Riggs cases show the power of wealth/fame

Despicable plea deal

Even OJ has now come out and publicly criticized how light Ruggs' sentence is..
OJ compared/contrasted the sentence he received in Nevada, vs. Ruggs' punishment in Nevada. And Simpson isn't wrong..

It is pathetic for the prosecutors, when OJ can legitimately claim a (situational) moral authority over them..

Ruggs deserves execution.

With that said, if they thought they might lose the case due to the blood draw, then I get it. It’s absolutely awful, but I get it. Imagine if this animal walks out free and clear. That poor girl and her dog. The family will never recover.

Why would they suppress the blood draw?
You need a warrant if the person refuses. Obviously something was done incorrectly by police or the ADA. If so, you lose the blood, which could very possibly lose you the DUI charges which accentuates the case. If you don’t have the blood, then the only way to keep the DUI is to try and explain observation to the jury. You can’t really say he was disoriented or unable to stand after a high speed crash like that so it’s a bunch of circumstantial stuff which gets risky.

Sounds less about money, and more about problems in the arrest/warrant process. Any good attorney would see that.

OJ case, sure. Crazy. “Dream Team.” … and a crappy prosecutor.

What was he looking at without the DUI?
