Oilers have had Steve MacIntyre, Sheldon Souray, Zack Stortini, Theo Peckham, Darcy Hordichuk, Ben Eager, Mike Brown, Luke Gazdic, Keith Aulie and others come and go since they last made the playoffs.

It was never an issue of not having vets or tough guys to insulate the youth.

Actually yes, everyone was pissed when we signed Komarov. I can remember very few people who thought he could live up to that contract. I remember arguing that one quite a bit.

Babcock flat out stated the way we were pushed around when we had the kiddos up was a concern, and players like Hyman shouldn't be doing it.

3 years for decent "protection" and you hope he doesn't fall off the 4th year, but the 4th one shouldn't be that bad - all things considering.

The Martin deal isn't the end of the world. He's a heart/hustle guy who is the same age as Komarov was when he signed his 4 year deal. Komarov has a little more offensive abilities, but Martin is slightly cheaper, will fight, and has shown a continued desire to hit everything that moves (something that has dropped off slightly from Komarov's game the past year or so).

It likely means that one of our prospects gets some extra time in the AHL... it won't be Marner though, so no need to worry about that!

4 years. About the length of time it takes guys like Nylander/Marner/Matthews(even though he has size), to grow into men.
When our boys get good and start beating teams they will get challenged. I'm ok with the additions of Rychel/Martin.
