Except Bob had a hurt ego which probably rubbed off on Panarin as he had bright lights and big cities in his eyes. Duchene was just along for the ride until he could go play country music.

It's almost like there's other factors involved for guys in their late 20s or early 30s besides just playing for a winning team.

Here's a place to look: Most goal scorers don't want to play for a defense first coach if they have other options.

Regarding Duchene, we should consider ourselves fortunate his favorite tune must have been “Nashville Cats”. If he doesn’t turn things around from year one, his contract will be one of the poorer ones in the league. In fact he and RyJo may be the worst one-two contract punch in the NHL. ...(was 1-2-3 until Turris buyout which they’ll pay on for many years.)

I’m 80% sure Gavrikov will leave to UFA, but 3 years of his early prime should be good for us

This board was 80% confident Duchene was staying because of a few flattering comments. I don’t think we’re very good at projections

Lets just win something meaningful.. players generally want to stay in an organization where they have a chance to win every year. Detroit is hockey town for goodness sake. Their downtown is coming back but for a few decades it was not so good.. and they didn't have trouble resigning players. Just win, fill the arena, make the owner some money. Get a taste of winning it can energize Ohio and the surrounding states.

For anybody wondering why they took him to UFA instead of a 2 yr bridge, there are two other d-men who will both be FAs in two years... Don't think the org wanted to have to resign Jones/Z/Gav at the same time.

I think it is safe to conclude that every UFA is leaving since they almost always do in Columbus.

Guys who could have left as UFAs, but re-signed, during the Jarmo era:

-Cam Atkinson, Brandon Dubinsky, Nick Foligno, Jared Boll, Mark Letestu (the contract signed in 2013), Steffan Matteau, Nathan Gerbe, Curtis McElhinney (x3)
