Good deal glad to have him

Pretty big coincidence that as soon as Nyquist is out long term jarmo decides to kick up the negotiations with a RFA. Maybe he’s trying to figure out how much cap we have in order to go for a free agent rather than trying to stick with the hostage RFA negotiations.

I'll take 3x2.8 over 4x4 or something like that. he will be a steal for 3 years. sad he's a ufa after but it's worth it for now especially with flat cap

That's about what was expected given his leverage, but it's worth remembering that Gavrikov is much better than a $2.8m player.

So, we’ve got $8m in cap space now, let’s say we sign PLD for $6.5m AAV and put Dubinsky to LTIR, we should have around $6.5-$7m to fill a spot at wing

He is. He's probably closer to the $4.2MM type player as paid in the last year of the deal. This is a really good deal for both sides. Low money out up front - this helps CBJ budget next 2 years - and the last year is a good negotiation point for the player if he performs as expected. He's a solid top 4 guy that has room to grow and improve. Love this deal. Let's us see where we are in a couple years too.

I had him at 4x4 so having him at so low for 2 years is pretty damn great

Gav is certainly worth that on ice as someone said earlier. Good deal for the Jackets without Jarmo unnecessarily using the hammer.

Putting Nyqvist on LTIR frees up another 5.5; Barring an internal cap there is plenty of room to add a Granlund or Hoffman or a lesser paid guy for a one year deal.

I don't think cap is relevant here. If Jarmo was going to sign one of those guys to a one-year deal, he already had the cap to do it.
