First ... sucks to lose Gauthier on a stupid, stupid play by Dotchin. I was looking forward to a great series between the teams and this injury just sucks and hope the series doesn't dwelve into a series of cheap shots and fights. The hockey could be really good. Sorry you guys lost a top six forward ... on a stupid, stupid play.

You are going a little far in your depiction. Dotchin is not a goon ... he can't even fight. He sucks at it. He is a physical player and a TBL prospect who played with Hedman on the first pairing. So no, this instance does not reflect anything on this being a goon league nor on Dotchin being a goon. He has legitimate skill ... he is physical and stupid.

The guys know, you think the Marchand spear to his nuts was bad? This guy is going to get taken out so large or more likely start an arms race where your good players will be played hard too. It all works out in the end, this guy is not a dirty player, his body of work suggests he is borderline.

not really a big loss...feel bad for him but he's a fourth line defensive forward at best.

Unfortunate injury. Was playing according to Keefe his best hockey of the season.
Hopefully it helps managment realize though that Boyle should be brought back if it didnt before as he is a much better player than Gauthier.

That really sucks for Gauthier. Had some chance of making the team next year. This really derails things for him. Wish him the best though. Recover well, and keep on working when healthy. This will keep him in the AHL for next season sadly, but still a long career ahead of him.

They need to throw the book at Dotchin. What a disgusting *******. This is only the list with the Leafs. Can't imagine someone that dirty hasn't injured or attempted to hurt guys throughout 2 leagues. It's not even at the point of "before someone really gets hurt" Gauthier is out for half a year recovering. Someone's already been seriously hurt.

Disgust.

The AHL is a goon league. How many times have we seen this out of this league. The Goat was important to the progression of this organization - a message needs to sent to the league about this type of needless dirty hit.

Dotchin needs to sit and watch for the remainder of the playoffs.
Sadly, Dotchin could probably care less if he's suspended for the rest of the AHL playoffs. He'd probably even welcome it. After all, players don't get paid for the post-season, and his spot in Tampa Bay's lineup next season is already all but assured by the fact that he was Victor Hedman's regular defensive partner from the end of January to the end of the regular season.

But at least it'd hurt Syracuse, and prevent him from cheap-shotting any more Leafs/Marlies this season.

They used to have guys like Broll, Fraser, McLaren, and Devane. Maybe the NHL has progressed beyond needing an enforcer but not sure the AHL is there yet.

Dotchin pulled a knee on knee against Matthews. It was pretty blatant. Maybe you are wrong.

If the puck was in the neutral zone why was Gauthier heading to the corner?

Thanks.

It looks like Gauthier chipped the puck back as he was skating towards the corner, the play goes out of the zone and Dotchin decides to just take him out anyways. Piecing it together a bit because the video doesn't really show everything but that seems to be the sequence of events.

Most here don't really get how to deal with a guy like that. You don't send your tough guy after him. It is Hedman or Kucherov who will need to look over their shoulder, not Dotchin. With a team of softies don't expect that from the Leafs. They will just watch it happen, over and over, like it has.

Yep, more often you are right. The liberties will be taken out on Stammer or Kucherov or anyone vulnerable so it doesn't look like a retaliation. I don't even think its on purpose its just that when a psycho is on the ice people react differently and on edge. The games always different vs certain teams because of their makeup.

Dotchin is legit dirty though, it's not just Leafs guys but other guys too who he's had predatory plays on.

Disgusted by this player. A message needs to be sent.

All 3 hits dirty. I mean, on the Kasperi hit. I have never seen a low bridger like that heading into the boards. Pure submarine job.

And absolutely intentional on Matthews, good thing he got up!

This is correct. Goat tapped it back and was gliding down. Dotchin was trailing behind in his blind spot not even in position to hit goat. Dotchin had to continue in for 2 or 3 seconds then decide to hit goat.
In the game there was no real food angle either because the play was so far in the opposite direction.
