Dear Jack

I like that you are adept at slowing down the play and reading the ice to make plays. But every once and awhile it would be great if you just selfishly blew through the neutral zone at full speed down one side. Which would force a dman try to stop you as you turn them around and cut to the net with speed and power. Even if you didn’t score it would open up more ice by backing off defenders. It would also likely gain us a PP or two as well. You seem to be wasting, or at least not maximizing, some of your talent (speed/power) by not using it when opportunities like these present themselves.

Tonight would be a great time to try this.

Thank you

The future
@joshjull i agree very much. No harm in jack taking advantage of his god given skills.

I liked how there were a few shifts against COL where Jack managed to draw two defenders to him in the offensive zone. The frustrating part is that he couldn’t get the puck to an open winger and nothing came if it.

Just win. No reason we should not win this one.

Hopefully it is of the blowout variety. It will make our conversations that much more fun later.
We debated whether we wanted a high scoring or low scoring team, the whole 2-1 vs 7-6 debate. Imagine if this was a season where we either won by 5 or lost by 5.

Edit: Also Arizona dominating 5v5 possession so far

Here's how the full lineup appeared at practice on Friday. Like switching up Bergy/Mitts, I'm guessing Larsson & Elie will be the extras.

43 Conor Sheary - 9 Jack Eichel - 23 Sam Reinhart
17 Vladimir Sobotka - 10 Patrik Berglund / 22 Johan Larsson - 72 Tage Thompson
53 Jeff Skinner - 37 Casey Mittelstadt - 21 Kyle Okposo
81 Remi Elie / 28 Zemgus Girgensons - 71 Evan Rodrigues - 29 Jason Pominville

6 Marco Scandella - 55 Rasmus Ristolainen
19 Jake McCabe - 26 Rasmus Dahlin
82 Nathan Beaulieu - 8 Casey Nelson

40 Carter Hutton
35 Linus Ullmark

We're still in a playoff-position! Let's keep it that way! If we lose one game, let's learn from that and become better the next one! Doesn't matter who's on the team, never mattered before when we were succesful, Buffalo was always a hard fighting team no matter what!

LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!!

Disagree. Mittelstadt hasn't shown much at ES, and Skinner-Berglund works. This effectively creates a useless line, continues to mute the solid Girgs-Erod-Pominville combination, and that second line has the potential to be a nightmare.

They had already shown a willingness to play Casey at RW in the Boston game, which would have made more sense.

I'd like to see Reinhart tried at center with some better wingers now aka Skinner

I'd be pretty interested to see them try something like this eventually, so long as the current combinations don't click first.

But I don't see them changing things around this much yet.

8-2 Sabres. Reinhart tips in 3 Ristolainen shots from the point to put the Sabres up 3-1. Dylan Strome is credited with a controversial Arizona goal after Ristolainen breaks his stick and kicks the puck into his own net while trying to play the puck with his feet. After an 85 minute delay while the officials in Toronto try to decide whether Ristolainen made a kicking motion (he clearly did) and whether that means the goal should be disallowed, the game resumed. The Coyotes pull their goalie with 6 minutes left and Eichel bags a couple empty netters before Ristolainen using a broken stick tips a pass from Beaulieu into his own net to make the score 5-2. The goal is reviewed by NHL officials in Toronto for 85 minutes to determine if it is legal for a player to score on his own goal using a broken stick. Eichel then pumps 3 more into the empty net to close out the scoring. Officials in Toronto never made a ruling on either of the Arizona goals. Someone disconnected the feed on both calls. No one is talking. Pending further review the Sabres may have their first shutout of the season.
