Game could have gone either way, both teams are still very sloppy with the puck. Well the whole NHL is.
EK breaks stick on a slapper (again), goes for a new one, Smith ends up playing RD giving the puck away to Malkin and bang - back of the net.

Not sure about the growing hate for Silferberg, think he's just getting used to the lack of time and space on the top line in the NHL. You can see he's got a good hockey brain. He got off a great shot, thought he had scored, started his celly, only for MAF to flash out his right leg. He will come good.

What sticks out to me is that of our opponents, only Winnipeg has a + number in that stat. So, our opponents (aside from possibly the Jets) don't seem to have a style of play that naturally creates many PP's or limits PK's against. If this were just one week into the season I'd just let it slide, but this isn't the first time we've seen these type of numbers. We were 4th last last year in this same stat. It was bul**** then, as its ******** now...

Edit: we were second last in that stat in 2010-11. So in the past two + seasons, we've been right at the bottom of that stat.
2012-13 - 29th (-17:26 after 5 games... insane that we are 3-1-1)
2011-12 - 27th (-71:39)
2010-11 - 29th (-74:00)

Its a crock.

maybe we are just a team that doesn't draw a lot of penalties. i don't think there is some kind of ref conspiracy against us. as frustrating as it is.

After 5 games

PP Opportunities: 15

Time Shorthanded: 23

Plus/Minus: -8

Why bother keeping track? We will be at or near the bottom, as we always are. People that claim the refs dont hate this team dont look at the stats.

For a team that relies on speed as much as the Sens do we should have far more PPs. But as has been the case for the last decade, we will have far more penalties called against us.

Actually, now Im curious....anyone have the numbers from the Pizza line days?

Looked it up myself.

PP time minus PK time

05-06 -8:54 (14th in the league)
06-07 +27:15 (12th)
07-08 -83:02 (28th)
08-09 -24:24 (22nd)
09-10 -46:16 (27th)
10-11 -74:00 (29th)
11-12 -71:39 (27th)
12-13 -17:26 (29th)

So, despite having one of the most dynamic offences in the league for much of that time, at best we were middling, and only ONE year did we have a positive.

Even more shocking to me is that in that same time, Toronto, a lottery team that spends almost the entire game in their own end finished:

05-06 12th
06-07 17th
07-08 15th
08-09 5th
09-10 2nd
10-11 2nd
11-12 6th
12-13 5th

They were a positive in all but 2 years. Really amazing with that truculent team of theirs.

Because he has looked good there.

Agree, greening looked horrible on line 1. And lats would look even worse. And it's always the best idea to start a rookie on the top line with maximum pressure. Great coaches think alike. Logical reasoning. And the guy is only going to get better, one point in 5 games is really good so his confidence must be growing quickly.

Carolina is top 5 every year since the lockout. Sometimes in the +100:00 minute zone.

Greening needs to stay with Spezza and Michalek. he just compliments them so well, drives to the net and is a big body there and along the boards allowing Spezza and Michalek to do their thing.

I really want to see Silfverberg with Turris and Alfie. Latendress is the odd man out
