Idk I feel like it could be a little bit of all of the above.

They don't fit well together, Malkin isn't what he once was and is a slow starter seems like a reasonable suggestion.

On the other hand, ever seen chemistry between Malkin and Zucker (i.e., I saw more last game in a few shifts with Tanev than I've ever seen with Zucker).

Whatever the answer, I expect Sully to get it wrong.
