Ansar Khan: Slow-starting Red Wings must play with more urgency during desperate playoff chase

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The last time the Red Wings played in Vancouver, the Canucks' Alexandre Burrows scored six seconds into the game, the earliest goal Detroit has allowed in its 86-year history.

The Red Wings came back to win the game, 5-2, on March 16. But, more often than not, they haven't bounced back from slow starts that have plagued them this season.

That's particularly been the case the past five games, when the Red Wings have been outscored 2-0 and outshot 56-39 in the first period.

The Red Wings, battling to squeeze into the playoffs with five games remaining, must start on time Saturday at Rogers Arena. Vancouver would clinch a playoff spot with a victory. The Red Wings are 2-0 vs. the Canucks, outscoring them 13-5.

Wings have done well against Vancouver this year but I just don't feel confident in them doing anything right now

about the only thing I feel confident in is Howard having a solid game tonight

I feel like I've said this before but Vancouver is soft hit them and they fold. 4-1 wings.

Dang it, no LOLungo in net so it won't be a blow out.
Still hoping for a Nyquist explosion, he's been buzzing the last few games and he's due for one.

Dekeyser - Kindl has been my favorite pairing the last couple weeks.

Here's to them continuing their performances.

Jordin Tootoo in for Eaves tonight. #RedWings

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 44 s
Babcock said the only change tonight is Tootoo will replace Eaves. So Colaiacovo, White and Lashoff are scratched on D again.

The gf got me tickets for this one. Hopefully the
Boys continue the streak against the nucks, there's no better feeling than blowing them out.

6-1 victory for the wings. vancouver sucks the last 10 games and have a po spot. detroit will invest much more power into this game. and we will pass the stars again.

Maybe they have the same idea some posters here have about missing the playoffs.;)

hey wings, you started tanking too late! no chance of getting into the top 10 now unless we win the lottery (<2% chance). better to just make the playoffs now. a first round upset of chicago would redeem the season

We're a game or two away from these becoming 'must wins' but...

As in literal must wins before facing elimination, yeah.

It's still possible to make the playoffs if we don't win here but it really kills our position.

I would call this one a must win. We shot our selves in the foot against Calgary and we need to gain the ground back.

Vancouver has won six in a row at home, we can only hope they have the typical bad opening 10 minutes in the Western Conference after a decent road trip. The Wings need to start on time tonight and get an early lead.
