We were promised a playoff team this year. Despite the frivolous spending and short sighted trades this team has somehow managed to get even worse than last season. And unlike last season the locker room is clearly divided and the coach has lost control of his team. And Aquilini unlike Molson in Montreal can't find it within himself to put aside his ego and admit the fans were right and he was wrong about Benning and Green and do the right thing and clean house. The fans have every right to throw jerseys on the ice. If I was there I'd be throwing one too along with a basket of blueberries.

The performance was not nearly as bad as the fan/media reaction is making it out to be.

Shots were 34-12 through two periods and scoring chances were almost as bad. This game could easily have been 7-1. Demko was excellent and Pittsburgh's finishing was poor.

That will be one of the worst shot differentials after 40 minutes for any team in this league on home ice all season.

The performance was not nearly as bad as the fan/media reaction is making it out to be. Can't really fault the penalties taken, or the penguins scoring during what was essentially their 5th and 6th minutes of 5 on 3 during the second. Sometimes you will be as lucky as Guentzel and take three shots that are heading wide and still score off of deflections and sometimes you won't.

Just to keep some perpective:
Remember when the Leafs and Habs had jerseys thrown on the ice? At the time that those events occurred, each of those teams was in the bottom 5 for Goal Differential versus Expected Goal Differential. The Canucks now sit 29th in that category at about -16 and are due for a massive positive regression in this regard. The Leafs have already had theirs and have vaulted up the standings.
This team is not nearly as bad as its record suggests, but as a mediocre (13-20th ish) quality team this year, they were always going to need a little bit of luck to make the playoffs and they have gotten quite the opposite. In the pacific, the Ducks and Sharks are good examples of similarly mediocre teams that have gotten a lot of good breaks and are currently sitting in playoff positions as a result.
Sorry but yes it was and yes you can.
Just off the top of my head the Myers penalty was absolutely atrocious, putting his hand over the puck. Both of Millers penalties were the result of not skating and letting frustration take over. Refs have been watching the crosschecking more this season so Motte's crosscheck wasn't a surprise.
As far as the deflections, you get good bounces when you're working hard and doing the right things. The Canucks might be working hard but the game plan and strategy from Green is dogshit or nonexistent.
This team is not vaulting up the standings until a new coach and GM is hired. No amount of luck can compensate for this teams poor play.

When you put over 50 pucks toward the net through two periods, you're also more likely to get deflections.

Horvat - dreadful. You can talk about Pettersson's problems for good bit but he was nothing close to as bad Horvat was in this game (and many other games) His defensive play throughout was horrible and was particularly noticeable on the first Penguin goal. Like he is standing in the middle of zone just watching the play. Did this repeatedly throughout the game. Wings sometimes afforded Horvat a chance to do something but could rarely get up in the play. Right now, if there is chance to move him for near anything decent you have to consider it. His skating is not close to being good enough for this level of hockey

Is it his skating or conditioning? He looks gassed after one burst up the ice.

Hate it with the jersey move. Makes any sensible discussion of the problems with this team seem irrational. Can just dismiss all the legitimate reasons for a change because such antics make it seem ignorant overreaction. If some fans have a clever, thoughtful or maybe even amusing way of showing frustration with the situation would be something you could admire. Jersey thing is just copy cat and classless.
I just don't agree. If you want change you have to break conventions, because conventions are there to stifle change. It's the "Hey, they can't do that" that makes the gesture meaningful -- people can do that. Demands and instructions can flow the other way.

Also, if you want to believe the symbol of the jersey is sacrosanct somehow, then I don't think people throwing it are devaluing it. Someone else had to devalue it first in order to make that person willing to throw it.

One of the craziest things about this whole start to the year is the Nucks have had almost no injuries and have had a very, very easy schedule based on teams played.

I can't even imagine what this is going to be like mid January where they go:

Panthers
Lighting
Hurricanes
Capitals
Predators
Panthers
Blues
Oilers
Jets
Flames

That's going to be a nightmare.

They also have 3 games in 9 days at the beginning of April against the Knights right as Eichel should be hitting stride lol.

I think it's the same mentality that soldiers have towards people kneeling for the national anthem. Former players and bootlickers view it disrespectful.
Really. Really? Wow.

A 'follower' maybe. A true fan...?

Aquaman will probably see that jersey thrown, I think it has achieved it’s objective. Anything to get this management team fired.

Aquilini is botching this so badly

1)He shouldnt have let it leak that we was looking for a new coach with firing the current coach as it just makes that work environment even more awkard

2) He is completely tone deaf about the optics of leaving his organization in a state of limbo because he is to cheap to just fire them and use the intern lag that will not go over well with any potential replacements.

3) He has effectively handcuffed the organization by leaving people who he is activitly trying to replace because they cant do anything. Benning cant even take offers on players who are supposedly available, Green is just a sitting duck and all the players know this as well now. We are in a state where none can do even do the everyday of their job. Its basically like no having a GM or a Coach and whoever takes over is going to have the learn the ropes even faster because they TDL will only be 20ish games away from whoever takes over which isnt enough time for anyone to evalute the hockey/organization team with any detail.
