It really is such a ridiculous thing. Luca Sbisa was the king of this. 'Good skater' who was constantly turnstiled because of his weak footwork skating backward. Tanev, on the other hand, is a slug skating forward but his footwork and backward skating is incredibly elegant.

1. That doesn’t negate Myers being too far ahead of the play while his teammates are changing.
2. That also doesn’t negate that this has been noticeable with Myers against people not named McDavid
