Leaf fan chiming in as I've seen you posting quite a bit..
Marleau/Brown are not better than Mikheyev/Moore, they just aren't. Brown can score 20 in a top six role but he's not a top six player on a good team. Mikheyev/Moore are quicker players with more creativity in their games.
Lindholm is a 4C on a meh team. He is not good at all. No offensive ability whatsoever. Gauthier is a significant upgrade on him, which is saying something. He's a 3C on Boston due to injuries I think.
Kadri is obviously an upgrade on Kerfoot (who you didn't mention) but that's to be expected. Kerfoot has some nice wheels on him though which turns our 3rd line into a much speedier one.
Spezza/Shore aren't great but for league min they are better than Marleau/Lindholm.
Just in general about you saying our team isn't as good this year:
Having Muzzin for the full year is big. Having two new players that can move the puck on the right side of the D is huge even if you think Gardiner is as good as Barrie. Teams would target our LD and force our terrible RD to make passes and it wasn't good. Nylander being Nylander again is big. Johnsson looking like he did in the last half of the year is big.
Team is better this year and has much more depth (including the Marlies).
Nobody cares.
