It's not just a lack of talent on the ice. It's a lack of success in the front office. While letting Tippet go and hiring an offensive minded coach might allow the Coyotes to pass the eye test, I agree with you that the talent mix and quality are unimpressive. The answer to that is to hire a new front office and start rebuilding to acquire the type of talent the new coach requires for his system to work.
Maybe, but we have never been able to spend any money, and that has now caught up to the team. DM caught lightning in a bottle with the Bryz/Smith/Whitney signings, 2 Vezina candidates and a 77 point 38 year old. After that, Lombardi/Sullivan/Smith/Ribs/verby walking, all did not work out as planned. Wheeler/Turris wanting out, did not help either.
We came blame Tip for the on ice play, and we can blame DM for the players. The reality is that DM made some fortunate signings and Tip has been able to do more with less, until now. The lack of money, and therefor lack of talent has caught up with us now. I don't think it is bad coaching or a poor GM problem.
You can only do it with "mirrors and over achieve for so long", maybe that is where we are now.
