That's the crux. Anaheim was already on the backend of a rebuild with youths RW Terry and C Zegras leading the team in scoring last year, RD Drysdale and C Lundestrom establishing themselves in the NHL, as well as having 2021 drafted phenoms in C McTavish and LD Zellweger. New GM Verbeek had two options: 1) build upon the current foundation and deal with the cap or 2) reset the team into a rebuild year 2.

Anaheim was missing extra NHL talent depth at forward and especially at defense last year when injuries hit mid-season. They proved they were on the cusp of being playoff bound. The Ducks could have followed what the Kings did last off-season to help the Kings come out of their rebuild by acquiring two top-6 forwards in Danault and Arvidsson as well as adding another veteran D in Edler. The Kings made the playoffs last year.

GM Murray resigned on Nov 10th, 2021, due to implementing bad behavior towards staff because of his alcoholism. The org waited until the Olympic break to sign Verbeek on Feb 3, 2022. Anaheim's record at the Olympic break was 23-16-9 (55 pts in 48 games). Verbeek knew top-4D Manson would be out with injury for a long time that started before the Olympic break and did nothing to address the roster. Manson would miss 12 consecutive games under new GM Verbeek and then play two games before being shipped out. According to Manson's agent, Verbeek never contacted them about contract extensions. Lindholm was next to be dumped. Verbeek's record as GM last year was 8-21-5 (17 pts in 34 games).

By offering Lindholm a short term deal with more money, Verbeek wants a rebuild that's cap controlled in the future and he owes no loyalty to Lindholm. At $6.5 mil for an 8-year term and the salary cap projected to increase significantly in a few years and continuing, it's a great gamble on a 28-year old top pairing, two-way shutdown D by the Bruins. And Lindholm was willing to play for less to stay in Anaheim?! Cap-wise, it didn't make any sense not retaining Lindholm long term at the home town discount price he was willing to take. It's rare to find that kind of loyalty in the organization, but GM Verbeek has no loyalty to Lindholm.

You're beginning to see Lindholm as a top-notch thoroughbred defenseman, but he's been like this since his rookie year in the NHL at age 19. Verbeek didn't trade away a good player in Lindholm; he traded away a cornerstone in Lindholm.
Thanks for such a detailed explanation

I don't pay as much attention to the NHL Western Conference as I do with the Eastern Conference, and haven't seen much of Lindholm until the Bruins acquired him last season, but he's definitely one of the best all-around defensemen in the league IMO, and since McAvoy's absence, I find myself really watching Hampus more than ever

..and what a treat he is to watch

Horvat is trying to get his agent to call Sweeney now. Has to settle for going on a scoring tear to get Boston's attention first.
If all it cost was Carlo i would be all over it but you know they will want more then just him and 5.5 he is making so probably a raise to .Can Bruins afford it ? Cap going up at least and they need future centre's

Rangers game is NESN+ only? Damn
From the NHL website
Thu, Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m., Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers, ESPN+/Hulu

So the game might be on Hulu if you have a Hulu account but you don't the Hulu bundle or a separate ESPN+ account. If you were a Sprint customer pre TMobile then you can get Hulu for free.

Thank you Mr. Bettman for making it harder for us to watch.

Secondary broadcast packages means more revenue which means more cap which means jack eichel at 28. We endure!
