Me too, that was a bit of a surprise. I don't think he was bad at all and he even created some chances.

When he isn't on to the point that he's killing it (which hasn't even happened yet, but he's had some lucky touches) he's just an easy mark. He can't keep up on the boards and they can't afford to roster a winger who can't do that with how they play. When defensive players look up and go "oh that's the tiny guy" they just paste him to the wall and let the rest resolve itself, it's not tenable.

Great IQ, good hands, but he's missing an extra tool. More speed would make his size manageable because he'd get out on plays. Genuinely elite skills and stick checking might make him a workable guy, but he's just missing an extra element.

When your 3rd line wing isn't getting the looks and feeling it but also isn't a "go f*** somebody up" guy, he's not bringing a lot.

If other teams want to play that ragged and porous, yes. The Devils were still really close to tying it, though.

They were more connected yet I still don't know how well they can defend, as seen when NJD surged back. It's progress and they stuck with it. McMichael & Mantha with Backstrom seems like it could work. Kuznetsov seemed to care. Result inconclusive.
