I would like to believe that, but it's not really what we have seen this season.

His confidence is shot now because of his NHL stint when the team was a tire fire and bleeding goals left and right.

He looks better in the AHL, but still gives shaky goals pretty much every game. I hope he can bounce back next season. Otherwise we have to start looking further down the pipeline, maybe to Dobes, in hopes of a future starting goalie.
Next year will be a pivotal year for him in terms of his future in MTL - it is his last year without requiring waivers & the last year of Allen's contract. Similar situation just played out in Ottawa... despite uncertainty with their supposed #1 in Murray, and a backup (Forsberg) on an expiring contract, Gustavsson was unable to prove that he is ready for everyday NHL play and Forsberg was extended. Now, Gustavsson will head into next season needing to outplay Murray or else he will end up on waivers. No guarantee that either goalie will be selected if placed on waivers, but it definitely represents a pivotal moment.

The goalie situation in MTL is so representative of MB style of management.

No global picture vision, wishful thinking when it comes to evaluation, always making his decisions based on positive, very positive and super hyper positives projections.

His lack of vision was fully exposed in the 2017 summer, when he completely destroyed his left defense.

He relied heavily on an aging Markov, didn't really prepared any succession and traded Sergachev for Drouin.

Then he made a bicep flexing contest in his contract negotiation with Markov and ended losing him for the KHL.

But from his perspective, his defense was then better than before ..

Ooops!!!

Then, from 2018 on they drafted a plethora of LHD: Harris, Norlinder, Guhle, Struble, Fairbrother, Leguerrier, Romanov.

To finally being in a situation where it's RHD Habs lacking...

MB probably thaught Weber and Petry would be good forever... Unicorn projections as always ..

Same thing with Price and the goalie situation.
They haven't drafted a goalie in earlier rounds since Fucale in 2013. They never really invested to assure Price's eventual replacement.
They put all their eggs in Primeau's basket but untill now, he haven't really shown he's gonna be up for the no 1 role one day.

MB tenure has been under the sign of constantly being two steps behind instead of two steps ahead.

As a GM, MB clearly hit his incompetence threshold (Peter's principle).

I think he was good in a supportive role (to a GM). As a former NHL player he was close and related to them. He was good at bridging between the players and management.

But as the one making the final decisions... he lacked perspective and wasn't detached enough.

Pimeau's age adjusted success in college was huge. Too early to write him off as never being a No 1. He's only 22, not many goalies are Carter Hart. Look at guys like Husso that toiled away in the AHL to mixed success and finally got it all together. Primeau has performed well in the AHL to date. Hopefully MTL can have an average team around him by the time he's actually ready.

Definitely. We just hope he won't become a waste like Fucale.

Hopefully he lines up a couple of good ones bc previous 3 were bad. His numbers not improving in his 4th ahl season. Got to play way more than Kevin Poulin…
With Dobes having so far lesser numbers in his 2nd ncaa season, maybe time to invest in goalie prospect.
edit: 6 goals tonight…
