Worst Call:
i'm at the left point offensive zone face off. the other team's winger is literally standing next to me on the wrong side of the circle. Somehow i'm the only one who notices (including our center who should not have lined up for the faceoff) I'm screaming and pounding my stick on the ice. i try to start skating in towards the faceoff dot, but as i do the puck drops puck goes right to the winger who comes down on a 2 on 1 (since 'm way out of position now) and scores. I go right up to the ref and tell him what happened (and how i feel about it including a few choice words) bottom line i get a 10 minute misconduct.

Next time just haul his ass down to the ice, or at least get your stick on him and tie him down. In my limited hockey experience I've done this to a guy who blatantly tried to cheat on a faceoff, it's not like the ref is looking anyways ;)

One time I had what I thought was a clean break away, so I'm skating in on net, and as I deke to one hand really quickly to change my angle, I feel this slash come down hard on my stick. It breaks. Turns out this kid had gone all out to catch up, then lunged and broken my stick. Ref does nothing. So now I have a breakaway, but I don't have a stick. Weirdest situation I've ever been in. Tried to circle back and kick the puck to a teammate. After that didn't work out, and after the whistle, I skate over to the ref. I'm lost for words, so I just give him this blank stare for about 10 seconds or so. He gives me a feeble, "What?" I facepalm, then skate away.

haha

That reminds me of a teamate of mine who crashed into a D, who was in a QB position, I think it was a PP, and both of them lost their sticks. Both get up and like 4 seconds later the puck is lifted out and my friend who where a tremendous skater blew past him and retrived the puck at the redline and went in on a breakaway without anyone close to him.

He was a right shot, and by the time he crosses the blueline he looks down and sees that he got a "left" stick. He had taken the Ds stick by accident, and the D's his. Now the funny part happends, everyone else would have tryed to do something. Why not a backhand? He instead throws the stick into the netting behind the net and skates over to the bench cursing at his "luck"...

I think we were 17 y/o, and that year we played in the Elite U18 league.

The same guy once got a breakaway, and tryed to deke the goalie by throwing his glove to the left, while gooing to the right... It looked freakisly funny, and actually worked to a extent since the goalie noticble was confused, but he didn't score.

This is not so funny.

We played a district championship in Sweden, away. The appointed reff couldn't make it so the hometeam had to fix one from their org. Nothing strange really, I think we where 15 y/o.

Anyway, with like a minute to go we are leading 3-2, after some awful reffing though. The other team gets a full 2 minute 5 on 3. The other team pulls the goalie so it becomes a 6 on 3. We do a pretty good job of killing it off, and with 15 seconds left we manage to clear the puck. I am able to actersail the D's and the puck bounces beautyfully in the endboards and stops like right infront of the empty net. After skating the length of the ice I bang in the puck in the empty net. My teammates clears the bench and we all end up in a big pile.

After what must have been atleast 5-10 seconds, after I scored the goal, the reffs starts yelling "icing icing icing -- no goal". We starts arguing with him, "there can't be icing since we are on the PK!!!". He then claims that he have called it icing and that a reff can't change his mind. We then argue that he never blew the whistle before we scored, and that if he can call it icing so long after the goal, he might as well change his mind.

Nope he doesn't, the game goes to OT, we get 2 more penaltys right away and looses the game.

The reff where atleast 40 y/o, and while we kids thought it was a important game, it really wasn't a big deal in any other way. Like the dirstict championships in Sweden are hardly a big deal, never more then 40 people in the stands et c. I still can't figure out how a grown men can act like that.

I was in a tournament a few years ago and got kicked out of our first game for boarding. I completely disagreed with the call and swore and screamed at the ref for about five minutes. I came back and played two games next day, and then the championship game was the day after that. We were winning in the third period and I dropped back on defense for the last minute of the game. My partner had the puck behind our net with about ten seconds to go, and I called for a pass standing on the goalline near the corner. He passed it over and I just let a ripper go right at the ref who was standing at the blueline.

He wasn't very happy that there was nothing he could do about it, and of course I acted like I had no idea what he was talking about.

Thanks to the thread bump, I just noticed this post.

I can't believe that you posted this in a fashion that would make us think that you're proud of this moment in your life. If you don't want to get kicked out of the game, then maybe you shouldn't be boarding players in the first place.

I once had a good coach, who also was a very good reff. Hed be reffing WCH's if it wasn't for him beeing more successful in a other area.

He told us players that if we ever got pissed at the reff, to keep our mouth shut, but to rip a slapshot at them...

Truth to be told, and I like to think that I am pretty sensible, it ain't that bad. We players get/got hit all the time with pucks. Reffs are just like everyone else, they can be a-holes at times. As long as its done with atleast some restraint I don't think its all that bad. Like you don't need to aim over the waist, but...

I threw my stick into the penalty box after a seriously bad call. I ref myself so I can easily pinpoint the difference and will take a call as long as it either felt like one to me or he can explain why he made the call and it made sense. Anyways, because I threw my stick in the box he put handcuffs on me and arrested me for "endangering the scorekeeper." That was the stupidest thing i have ever heard. He was an LAPD Cop. And the Scorekeeper? Shes one of my good friends.

I have moved back to goalie as my coach thinks I'm better off in goal. I have a crowd in my crease and I cover up the puck. The ref calls for a penalty shot because he saw my defensemen glove the puck in the crease to cover it. But I had it. He still called the penalty shot. I stopped it. The next time the puck was down ice. He calls it AGAIN! But this time there was no one in my crease. I got hot! Ripped off my mask and went off. He called four penalty shots that game. All for our opponent. I stopped three of four. We won that game 5-3. Turns out he had it out for one of our defensemen. He had gotten smashed the year before and broke his collar bone. He plays and refs. He's a goalie to so he knows how pissed I was. We play them this week. I can't wait. I hope we light 'em up.

We were having issues with a line change after the whistle, so the ref gives our team a delay of game penalty. The ref distinctly told our coach, "If your guys don't get on in time I'm going to hand out penalties."

This was perfectly fine with us... until about a minute later the other team has the SAME EXACT problem, in which the ref blows the whistle and allows the other team to take their time.

I can agree with a wrister or snap (never a slap) shot NEAR a bad(biased) ref but not AT one. That crosses the line into intent to injure or assault. To intentionally hit a ref with the puck or a Coach to even suggest it to his bench.....insane.

In Iowa they have a winter tourny called Iowa games. Its no contact but they dont call anything a bunch of fights and its just like junior hockey. Well My screen name is for a reason and I tried to get a guy that crushed one of our guys in the open Ice with a no call so I go and rough him up a bit and get tossed in the box. Hey I took the other guy with me.

Thats just the beginning. While we are escorted to the box me and the other guy start yapping back and forth and I kept asking him why He wouldnt fight me while my team mate is still laying on the ice (helped off the ice didnt come back he was concussed) well I asked the guy if he had sand in his vagina while the ref was telling the score keeper the penalties. I got another 2 mins for unsportsmen like conduct. Well as soon as I exit the box that kid has his head down to recieve a pass I completly destroyed him. Knocked him out cold with a clean Body check and I was giving a roughing, and a game for that hit. we won the game by one but most of my mate loved me after that.

another one in my adult a league were I was skating with the puck around the net looking for a pass to the point and The other teams guy came in and put his knee right on mine down I went. I tore up my ACL MCL and broke my leg. after sugery and lots of rehab I mad it back little over a year later and dressed for a playoff game and that guy lined right up next to me on opening face off. I didnt say a word to him and as soon as the puck was dropped off went the gloves and I worked the guy over pretty good. I got kicked out of the game but nothing was assests to the team and the other team was so pissed. I was happy my knuckles hurt but his face hurt more. thats what he gets for trying to hurt someone completly. I dont mind hitting and rough stuff but when you do dirty stuff like that is when I will go nuts for.

At the end of the UNH/BU game last week, BU was down by 1 and on the power play. They pulled their goalie for 6x4, and had possession of the puck in UNH's zone. Whistle blows, ref very theatrically counts out, "One, two, three, four, five, six..." and gives BU a penalty for too many men. He looked pretty embarrassed when the players all pointed to the empty net at the other end. They negated the penalty, but BU had to put their goalie back in because the faceoff was outside the zone.

a guy slashes my goalies arm knocking the stick out of his hand, the ref misses it so play goes on.i yap with him he tells me to stop whinning . about two minutes later here he comes crossing the blue line with the puck. me and him one on one. i crush him. clean open ice hit. no call. the puck goes into the corner i pass it up ice and here he comes. he crosschecks me in the face. i smile at him. he punches me. i laugh at him. he gets a 10, a 5 and a five game suspension. i get NOTHING. i'm still laughing at this one haha.
all of this in a no-check league.

I once had three goals called back on highstick calls. Now if they were actually highstick calls, I'd have no problem with it. However, this one ref's definition of highsticking was raising your stick above the waist, even on a slapshot. (edit: I see somebody else mentioning this call in their post, but he was the only ref to call this rule and was instructed by others that it was not to be called.)

With about a minute left, we were down 7-6 and I buzzed one past his head (not intentionally, but it didn't help he was along the boards.) He calls me for an unsportsmanlike, and of course at this point I lose it. I start going off and telling him stuff like the next time he picks up a f'ing rulebook will be the first time. He ends up tossing me from the game. As I'm leaving, he goes on a profane rant that would make most truckers and some sailors ashamed. The one thing that stuck in my head was him saying that he'd make my season a living hell as long as he refs and that he'll be sure to show how well he knows the f'ing rulebook.

From that point on, I was getting called for 4-5 minors a game...in a B level inline league! It was so bad that I couldn't take a full shift without getting a penalty. Some teams keyed in on it, knowing that if I so much made eye contact with another player, I was getting a penalty. But lucky for me, I had friends on a few other teams who saw this and said "WTF is going on here?" I know he wasn't back that following season, but a few friends told me he was back reffing again.

My Sons game yesterday: WNYAHL Bantam Major Q game...

A Rochester player basically thows himself on our Goalie...none of our players with in 2-3 feet of the kid. The goalie gives the player a tap with his stick as he grags himself out from under the Rochester player. Ref gives the goal a 2 minute for slash and nothing for the player crashing the goalie. Reason...one of our players supposedly pushed him into the goalie.

Short while later, batling for the puck behind our net, one Rochester player grabs one of ours around the head in a head lock throwing punches as another Rochester player jumps into it, both boys punching at they bull dog him to the ice. He didnt throw any kind of punch...he gets 2 for roughing and one of their players a rough. Prior to that there was a call (rough) on Rochester(by the OTHER REF) so We get a Power play. Where does the guy insist the face off is? The right face off circle deep in our end.

At the buzzer, game end, one of our players is standing at the point just off the boards. The puck is down deep in the corner. at least 5-10 seconds after the buzzer two Rochester players attack him on the boards. Two of our players grab their team mate and pull him out, away from the two attacking Rochester players. We get 3 roughings and they get one, tacked to the end of the game.

The Ref....turns out is related to two of the Rochester Coachs. If you cant call a game with out bias, you have no business wearing the stripes.
