The first round of free agency is complete and the first wave of signings is now official. Aside from those signed, teams involved in round 2 are welcome to make submissions starting Wednesday, July 25th at midnight EST and ending Saturday, July 28th at midnight EST. This deadline also applies to all teams whose player has signed an offer sheet to indicate whether they will match or not. A lack of response will be considered as a choice not to match.

Teams are also welcome to continue to bid on restricted free agents who have not signed an offer sheet (many rejected the offer sheets submitted) and to also make offers for free agents still on the market.

The most significant signing to date was Martin Brodeur joining the Canucks after a heated negotiation that came down to Vancouver, Phoenix and Tampa Bay vying for his services.

Thanks Nick.

Thanks have to go out to Nick for getting this out so quickly. It must of been a lot of work sorting all the offers out with all the permutations.

First, thanks Nick....that is some serious dedication to get it done so fast.

Now that I am done with that, are you people ****ing nuts? Seriously, $2,000,000 for forth liners/3rd pairing guys?

6 months ago teams were complaining that they were losing money, now Jay Pandolfo gets 2M?
Isles fans complained when they gave Bates $1.2, and that was before his leg problems last year. Now he gets 2? Wow.

I have to agree, I made many bids on players and only one was good enough to sign right away, obviously I will have a crappy year anyway but at least my payrol will be managable.

Pandolfo though is an exception, I didn't expect him to go that high but he did win the selke trophy and that should mean something for his rating.

You guys go ahead and spend all your money and I will feast on the crumbs you leave behind. I have a feeling I'm going to suck for at least another few years, lol.

Great work Nick. You got it up so fast, and over your birthday weekend to boot.

A couple queries:

1) Philly signed David McKee but I signed him last year and he should have one more year left with me, assuming we mean David McKee the goalie. Honestly I won't be re-signing McKee next year anyways unless he turns it around big time, but thought I should point it out.

2) I may be missing something, but how can guys who haven't left college like Ryan Duncan and Erik Condra, sign contracts?

Thanks again though Nick. I'm pretty sure I couldn't do your job at all, let alone in a timely manner. :handclap:

Great work Nick!

Good to see that nobody made a crazy bid on Morrow and I got him at a reasonable salary. Travs Green should also be a nice addition to my bottom 6 forwards..

Matt, if you're willing to pay Boynton 2,5m and give up a 1st and 3rd round pick in 08, I'm more than happy to let him go to you, even if I now need to add another defenseman. 2,5m is just too much for a 3rd pair defenseman IMO..

She's a Goalie

The offer was for David McKee the goalie so if he's already signed NP.

Awesome work, Nick. Two quick notes:

Columbus will match the offer for RFA G Mike Smith. Good on him for waiting to see what the market would bring!

Kyle Greentree is shown as signed by NJD at $600K, but then shown as contested at $650K.

Cheers.

They shouldn't be eligible. Reggie simply didn't have the time to check every player's eligibility and get the results out on a timely basis. The mistake/ineligible signings will be sorted out in the coming days. There is also talk that a fine system may be put in place in the future for teams that throw out offers to players that are ineligible - college, european, players already owned, etc. Reggie had to throw out about a dozen offers to ineligible european players.

I made my fair share of large offers, but I can't believe some of the money being thrown out there. 3.5 mill x 4 years for Anson Carter - a player who can't find an NHL team? Owen Nolan for 3.25 mill? He just signed for half of that in the NHL...

Thanks for the kudos. Excel makes the entire affair doable in rather short order (ok, relatively short).

A few missing and incorrect items to address:

Greentree is in the 2nd round and the signing note with NJ is a mistake.

Also, both Marty Reasoner ($1.4M x 3 years with Anaheim) and Trevor Linden ($1.6M x 3 years with the Islanders) have signed and will be added to the "Signed" list.

And further to Sean's post, going forward GM's will be fined upwards of $100,000 for any ineligible contract submissions, specifically those that could have been avoided by doing a simple search on the roster and prospect page. This will also apply to players in Europe yet to come over and college players yet to give up their eligibility. Reggie simply hasn't the time to check every signing, so it will be up to the GM to ensure they have done the proper research against the eligibility criteria. This is how we run into problems with a player listed on two teams and we obviously want to avoid this.

Wow, $100,000. That's alotta cabbage.

So long as the GM can demonstrate that they did due diligence, and the oversight is due to something odd (like conflicting media reports about a prospect signing, or a mis-spelling on the futures page) then no worries. If however they just missed something... well, a stiff fine is incentive not to miss anything, right? :)

2nd Rd Format for Bid Submission

Reggie,

Any specific format you want for the 2nd round? or will same format as round 1 suffice?

Thanks,

C.

Based on this I DO NOT want to hear or see a single thread on how the league has to increase revenues further. :pullhair:
GM's are their own worse enemies and then cry that the Admin team has to make changes to bail their bankrupt teams out.
