Good signings IMO:

Jussi Jokinen at $4m for 4 years. Maybe a year too long but still solid.

Mason Raymond at $3.17 for 3 years. Seems to be the going rate for 40 point type 3rd liners.

Dan Boyle at $4.5 for 2 years. He's old but even as a second pairing PP specialist, this is better than most defenseman signed today.

Brad Richards for $2m on a one year deal. He doesn't have much left but for that price there isn't much risk.

Mathieu Perreault at $3m for 3 years. If he can stay on the ice this could be a great deal.

Christian Ehrhoff at $4m for 1 year. As much as I hate the Pens this could be a win-win for both. Ehrhoff could look like Niskanen if he gets PP time and could cash in for one last big deal next offseason.

I'm sure I forgot a couple but with all the terrible contracts thrown around today, these ones seem either fair or good to me.

Ehrhoff, Letang, Maatta, and Martin are all like the same type of defensemen. They have no defensive d and nobody to clear the crease. The softness continues in Pittsburgh.

Ehrhoffs D is getting slightly underrated here... he is more than competent defensively. He has played pretty hard minutes, usually against 1st lines, as well as being their go to PKer and came out of them quite well... heck last year he somehow had positive Corsi on, and is always positive in Corsi rel.

Puts some Flyer deals in perspective.

McDonald was a slight over pay, probably would get 5 years, $4.5M a year in this market, Stralman the closest comp.

Vinnie should be tradeable once Flyers pay the $2M bonus without having to take much money, a couple older wings got $4M a year who aren't any more productive (though they might be more mobile).

Gaborik, 32, resigned 7 years, $4.9M
Cammalleri, 32, 5yr, $5M
Gionta, 37, 3 yr, $4.5M
Jagr, 42, 1 yr, $6M

which is the opposite of the Flyers. little skill outside of Streit on the back end.

Lack of skill was never their problem. Their defense has been soft for awhile and could get easily punished by teams with larger forwards on the forecheck. That wont change next year.

That Miller article is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. It should have gone like this:

"Can the Flyers pull this off with their current cap situation?

No."

End of article.

Instead he says "sure" and then says we just have to do it extra sneaky-likes? What the **** is this? How are we going to offer him about 3-4 million and convince Columbus that it's actually many, many millions? Use Roman Numerals and hope they can't sort it out?

I like how Randy also assumes the Flyers org has the mindset of a spoiled child who isn't getting as much attention as it wants. How can they make a splash!?

Why do we need to make a splash?

I thought Randy Miller was run out of town

He somehow landed another job with NJ.com earlier this year. He was covering the Devils at first but then towards the end there they made him start covering the Flyers for whatever reason. He's been writing Flyers related articles for a while now dating back to the spring.
