I've seen threads like this while browsing other teams' forums so I figured it'd be fun to keep an eye on our former players.

Craig Smith got the OT winner for Boston last night. Predator for a minute Wayne Simmonds has a couple goals early in this season, maybe he's got a little more gas left in the tank.

Nashville north, aka Minnesota, has Suter with 5 points, Hartman and Fiala with 2 and Bonino with 1. Fiala apparently looks pretty good but snakebitten.

Subban is still sucking apparently.

Well at least it wasnt just us.

And apparently Subban is horrific now. At least Poile bailed on him at the right time.

Im susurprised none has started a Kunin vs Fiala thread/spreadsheet...

I always thought using him as a defensively oriented 3C seemed like an awful fit, so I guess I'm not too surprised.

Well, speaking of defensemen up here - MDZ was off to a ludicrously hot start, but has been slowly settling back down to earth. Still has been much, much better than I ever would have expected.

Seth, OTOH, has had a really lousy start (so has Werenski), and that's showing no signs of getting any better, which has us all a tad antsy. He's not really *bad*, but he's right now playing more like the borderline second-pairing type I was afraid of possibly getting when the Joey/Jones trade first went down.

I think Seth needs to be paired more of a defensive first defenseman. MDZ is fools gold, don't fall for it, you'll see.

Oh, believe me, I've seen him before - at the time we signed him to a PTO, I was thinking "well, he annoys me more than he impresses me, but we'll see". He's doing really really well alongside Kukan, tho (who's also having a very good start). So maybe it's a chemistry thing. Or maybe it's his standard flash-in-the-pan thing a la Anthony Duclair. Hoping for the former but braced for the latter.

As for Seth... he just does better with transition management (both for and against) and we don't have much of a transition game up here right now. That may change a bit once Laine finally arrives.

Really fun waste of 15 minutes.

Anyone come up with a better roster that's cap compliant with Current/Former Preds? Note, we are still paying just north of $2,000,000 in buyouts so that money isn't able to be spent.

The scariest thing is we still can't do any better at center than Johansen and Duchene, even with those cap hits.

I'd find a way to squeeze Shea in there somehow. I'll take him over Ellis if that's what it comes down to.

Who was it who said that he'd work in a bottom-six role and had a ton of game still left?
I warned the Oilers fans on the main boards that he wouldn't be a good pickup in that role. 2nd line with wingers who carry him MIGHT work (also might not) but I still can't imagine any other role he can play in the NHL.

Although that said, at the price they're paying him, I guess it doesn't matter so much. Like if Haula does nothing for us... who cares. On those contracts, it's not that big a deal.

Jones gaining reputation as the new OEL around the league. Looked like a sure thing to win the Norris couple years back but has come down to Earth since.

I thought about it because I love me some Shea, but it's a matter of clearing even more salary out. I already had to cut Pekka and go with a completely raw Ingram in net.

Most of the guys we lost were lost via trades to make us better. Jones/Joey is still the most complicated. Most would say we won that trade in the first few years, but CBJ won it in total. I disagree. Even with Joey's allergy toward scoring goals, we reached the Pred Pinnacle (2017-2018) in large part because of Joey. He's still valuable and I wouldn't trade him. Seth is good but overrated. He makes the All-Star Team cuz CBJ needs to be represented and his Division D-men counterparts are on teams with other All-Stars so Seth keeps getting the nod. We had enough D-stardom when we made that trade. We didn't have a #1 Center.

The biggest regret and unforced error was Rads. He is our best drafted forward and the world was his oyster. His first trip back to Mother Russia was frustrating, but he was a kid. When we brought him back in 2012 (remember the tracking of his plane flight before the first game), he needed to finish the season to play out his ELC. We beat the Red Wings in 5 (when they were still good) and then played the infamous series against the Coyotes. We'll never know what actually happened that night (how late he was; what his excuse was;what happened around that event) but the result was a bush-league benching that cost us that series imo. I love Trotz but him and Poile misplayed this. Should have punished him behind the scenes and challenged him to make amends on the ice. Once we were bounced and lost our best chance to win the Cup, we "canceled" Rads permanently. He goes back to Putin, plays a little, then returns to the NHL as an extremely effective power forward for the Habs and now the Stars. I torches us every time we play him. We should have resigned him after 2012. Probably could have gotten him for below-market given his misstep, and he could have matured as a Pred and been our best home-grown forward.
