Really impressive clutch play by the Wings. Habs were leading until late in both games.
Impressive , clutch , mind blowing absolutely amazing . If they made the playoffs, they would have been my pick for a cinderella story tbh . Full momentum going into playoffs with unbelievable resiliency. Man what could have been . Sorta like the Panthers last year who never knew when to quit . Love it ! Shows heart

Well, no, they did matter, hence why this thread.

Red Wings got the point, season over for the Flyers...and they still proceeded to pull the goalie.
Because they didn't know. Again, all they knew was they needed to win in regulation tonight. Why would they care about Pittsburgh or Detroit?

Would bet money that old boy Torts told everybody not to look at the out of town scoreboard.

Still doesn't negate the fact that the Flyers also needed the Red Wings to get 0 points in order for their playoffs hopes to be still alive.
Is torts supposed to drop what he's doing while play is on going to make sure his teams still alive? You think any NHL head coach is going to be more tuned in with a different game than the one he's on the bench for? 😂😂😂

Terrible look for the NHL. Not saying there was any funny business, but you have to know where you stand and when you are eliminated you can’t decide things like that without a valid reason for doing so.
What? The games were all going on at the same time. What do the Flyers care about any other team than the Flyers? Going into the game all they know is they need 2 regulation points to stay alive. Nothing else is their business. Whether WSH or DET gets in is irrelevant to them

Games were going at the same time and Detroit scored late so Flyers would still be going for it. Do you think Torts is watching the Wings game and then says screw them? Of course not.

Wherever the keg is!

Considering their playoff chances rested on neither the Red Wings, Capitals, and Penguins getting a single, solitary point in order for to be playoff bound, a little silly to say "they didn't care."

Yeah, only Torts is behind that bench.

Funny how the Red Wings had no problem knowing what their fate was in that shootout, seeing them all look dejected on that bench.

There was a minute between the key moments. You have 30 assistants. You could have league officials at the game monitoring it also. There’s no good reason for why they shouldn’t know.

Why would they pull the goalie if they were eliminated? Doesn’t help them. They wouldn’t do that without the situation being what they thought it was. The onus is on them to be informed of where they stand so they don’t compromise the playoff race.

The only element of their playoff chances that they had any control over was beating the Capitals in regulation. This isn't hard to understand.

It was a minute before, is that plausible? Idk but it's interesting for sure

Highly doubt they were keeping up to the second eye on the Wings game. They were trying to win their own game in regulation, and Detroit literally scored at the end of regulation, so unlikely they were sitting there watching and saying well we will still pull the goalie.

In the shootout, like 10 minutes after the goal was scored and the game had ended, with breaks in between, 3rd intermission, intermission between OT and shootout. Not 30 seconds later while play was ongoing.

Right so when you’re repeating things I already said as if I’m arguing against them, that’s when I say you’re missing the point 🤷‍♂️
Then you are not getting your point across very well. Your point seems to be its a shitty circumstance and it feels bad. Boo f***ing hoo, crying and going woe is me isn't going to elicit any sympathy.
*Edit* Especially when you have people trying to convince us that Torts did it to spite Detroit.

Point: “The NHL is rigged”

Argument: “They didn’t intervene for Detroit’s benefit”

It's a distraction to the current game being played. That's enough of a reason. They have no obligation to help or worry about any other teams playoff chances but their own.
