Allvin is facing some tough decisions with this lineup. Although the Canucks have been the 'talk of the NHL' through 35 games, they're still 'a work in progress'.

And the Canucks are facing some hard choices with their UFA's. Blueger, Lafferty, Joshua, Cole, Zadorov and Myers are all without contracts for next season. Obviously with blueliners in high demand, Allvin will have an opportunity to 'sell high' on a couple of these guys at the TDL.

But of course depending on the return, he'll probably end up having to weaken the lineup over the short term. I'm sure they'll extend contract offers to Blueger, Lafferty and Joshua. But if they don't sign, what do you do?

Canucks can ill-afford to lose these guys for nothing.
Players leave and cap space opens up. It’s fascinating. Each team turns over 6 - 9 players every season. Some of these guys will be retained, some won’t. Trades will be made, prospects graduate, It’s pretty neat.

Another gem from last night’s post game

“The Canucks actually won the game based on expected goals”

Ugh
Shows you what most advanced stats mean in hockey. It’s for the sweaty neckbeards with their sweaters and cup of tea that don’t have the capacity to understand or follow the game let alone lace up a pair of skates and do a lap. It’s mostly noise. Baseball has too much analytic bullshit in it, but it has almost no place in hockey. Teams have THEIR OWN analytic stats and it’s from people who actually know the game.

PA is not trading our UFA’s for futures when we’re 1st in the NHL.

We have traded UFA’s in the past when we were a bubble/non playoff team. Totally different scenario.

Seen enough of these flat Christmas games to not put any stalk into it.

Went to a Boxing Day special against Calgary one day back in the early 2000's. Mattias Ohlund was so hungover or likely still pissed as he could barely stand up and was tripping over his own feet all game. Was the worst game by far i ever seen him play.

Players are humans it happens

Like a lot of things, one team has success and everyone follows. Billy Bean’s Oakland As had great success using analytics but then everyone jumped on and leveled the field. That was over 20 years ago. I don’t think there are any teams in any top sports league that have a huge advantage these days.
I agree, the annoying thing is when the media takes publicly available analytics and tries to bend them to fit a narrative, failing badly to put them in context.
