The Saddledome is basically already in the middle of downtown. I can't imagine that the new arena would be any closer to downtown than the Saddledome already is.

Also, I'm 95% sure that it would be placed near LRT. I feel like the arena will be place somewhere near Kerby Station (nearby the old Telus Science Centre, or near the Greyhound bus station/by Sunalta LRT station) or somewhere in the East Village area where the new Central Public Library is slated to be built.

East Village is the most rumored site.

That and the west side of 14th St. across from the Greyhound station. Lots of industrial crap down there they could clear out. Lots of space, good access in and out of downtown and it would be close to the new LRT they built.

That or East village makes sense.

East Village isn't that far from the Dome now, it's right off the Bow river and just east of the Dome.

It's mostly the old slums formerly called Victoria park. Pretty much all that was demoed and is in development now. That's the newest trendy area in the city.

Where the Greyhound station is, that's just west of downtown, literally on the outskirts.

Red = Current location of arena

Purple = Surrounding area (AKA Stampede Grounds) which contain BMO Convention Centre, Cowboys Casino, and Big Four exhibition building

Green = likely new proposed areas if the arena is to stay downtown; the western side contains several vehicle sales lots and the Greyhound bus station while the eastern side (East Village) contains new developments such as residential condominiums and high-rise buildings, or retail & restaurant areas.

Blue+Black = Calgary's LRT system, with black dots for downtown-area stations.

yeah thats the area I was talking about. but to be fair I can find my way around Calgary for the most part, but I've still very much a tourist.

Flames arena plans. I think it's safe to say they were in the works and then scrapped when the Flames acquired the Stamps and they increased the size of the project and started over.
