Not bad considering he goes in the second round of 2017 redraft.

I hope they don't underestimate the Senators, cause they have a lot of fire power. They have 5 guys basically going point per game. Talbot is also playing great and I'm sure he'll play against us. The games they've lost have been very close, mostly 1 goal games with good teams like Vegas, Tampa, Flyers (I know), Panthers, and they've also beaten Boston, Dallas and Washington this season. We really have to bring our best, this is not the time to try out Schmid or mess with the lines too much.

It’s a sneaky tough game for sure. You know Ottawa will be desperate for a win. With that being said, we can abuse their D. Will be a different test for our D as opposed to Calgary. The Flames try to wear you down while the Sens get you with speed and skill.

I swear to god if people start discussing last year’s goaltending more…

Even in this game we did play pretty solid defensively.

Calgary has been coming out hot in the first period and they did it again.

For all this discussion about their physicality we did a pretty good job of keeping them in the parameter, particularly in the last two periods.

They changed up their lines and the new Lindholm line with Ruzicka and Toffoli was better. (And Sutter hilariously played Ruzicka only once before this, but he made a mistake and isn’t a vet so this was his second game.)

Mangiapane and Backlund were a handful at times, mainly against Haula/Wood/Mercer in 1st.

But the Kadri line with Coleman and Dube didn’t do shit. Kadri/Coleman were on the ice for 2 GA.

And they scored two PPGs.
I think this is exactly the point that @Triumph was trying to make.

Last year, this would have been a loss, so the discussion would have been very different,

IMO, the Devils got their lunch handed to them yesterday, but got bailed out by Vanecek playing extremely well plus Sutter deciding Markstrom should play back to back.

But, even in a poor game, the Devils did many things well and showed signs that they're making progress. Because they won, these things seem magnified in importance. If they had lost - particularly if it had been a lackluster 4-2 loss (or 5-2 with Calgary potting an empty netter) - the steps the Devils are making wouldn't really be noticed.

I don't know....if Vladar played, the Devils might have scored more than the 3 goals they got even though they played very sloppily.

That makes the victory all the more impressive regardless.

Went to the Rock last night, such a great atmosphere compared to so many recent years. Place went ballistic when Nico scored, that felt like a playoff moment.

Also agree that as much as this was a rough game in some ways, I never felt like they were getting hideously outplayed. Even when it took them so long to get a shot on net, it didn't feel like they were utterly helpless and it didn't feel like Calgary was getting a ton of high quality chances, it just wasn't the level of dominating possession we've gotten used to so far this year.

This was funny live lol.

You should seen/heard the Flames play by play for that.

The commentator actually thought Dawson went for a hit and when he saw this, he stuttered for a bit then doubled-down on Dawson' going for a hit (but quickly moving on to to the next replay). what's the matter? Afraid to say that Gilbert got Ole'd (like a Bull in Spain)?

I’m totally serious, had no idea who he is, even as a player.
Pretty irrelevant as a player. 4th line plug who would scrap some of the big boys. Won a Calder Cup in the A and made a name for himself on Twitter towards the end of his career, but he's on TNT now, the Spittin Chiclets podcast, he's doing extremely well post career.

Also was notably and unusually kind to homeless people in every city where he played. Whatever else you want to say about Biz's playing career or commentary, in my book he's alright for this alone.

I actually didn’t know this, but it definitely helps elevate my opinion on him.

I never particularly disliked him, but how vocally adamant he was about the Devils not making the playoffs this year and being tired of hearing about how great we’re gonna he is what really soured me.

Now, in all fairness to him, I was also tired of hearing about it as much as he was, as I’m sure many Devils fans also felt the same way. If he would have said he thinks the Devils are gonna suck because he thinks our goaltending sucks and doesn’t trust it, well then I would have completely agreed with him and saw his point. He seemed more like he was just skeptical of the organization though, rather than the goalie position or any one thing.

He did recant on his comments last night on TV and said he thinks we’re gonna make the playoffs. Hopefully it isn’t a jinx lol. All is forgiven from me.

And he was pretty vocally anti-Rangers throughout last year’s playoffs. He never believed in them and was doubting them the whole way through. Which was really cool because many of his colleagues over there were way too high on them.

That’s his thing though. He likes to play the heel a lot of the time because it generates content. Spittin Chiclets was popular before Biz hopped on full time, but he brought it to another level entirely. He’s actually a very smart as far as a media/business person. It sounds like he’s the main one coming up with new content and ways to keep listeners and views engaged.

As far as the Devils, I’m convinced he saw the Devils as a team about to jump to the next step and decided to turn heel. One of his good friends Pasha is apparently a diehard Devils fans too, and they’ve brought him on the podcast a few times.

I'm a fan, I love that podcast. I know ppl hate on it bc of who they work for but I haven't found them to be anything other than a fun hockey show.
