You don't have to go back too far to see some posts that say that Bennett is a non-option in the top 6 like Jankowski.

Lindholm has experience at center. Ryan had a strong season. And yet it's Bennett there.

The difference there is that Bennett still had the upside to improve, which he has. Jankowski, that is much less so the case. You wont see Jankowski in the top 6 ever unless injury absolutely forced it.

Lindholm stays at RW because we literally do not have enough RW'ers otherwise.

His only real competition for that spot is Ryan, with Backlund out. If Peters believes what you're suggesting, we will see Bennett as the 2C when Backlund is healthy. Having him there over Ryan however, doesn't demonstrate that.

It's pretty obvious that Peters is going to experiment with centers this year. The fact that Bennett would slide up to the #2C with this injury and not Ryan or Jankowski says that Peters thinks much more highly of him than some are willing to admit.
Or he wants to see how Bennett will do, and early season is better to figure it out than later on. We already know Ryan can fill in top line fine in short bursts (not long term obviously but he meshed ok with Gaudreau when needed) so why not try Bennett there now?

I see 100 goals and 100 assists for Bennett if he centres the top line.

If Backlund is out, we'll see this, I guess:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Bennett-Frolik
Lucic-Ryan-Czarnik/Rieder
Mangiapani-Jankowski-Rieder/Czarnik

Whatever lineup we end up rolling with, I'm comfortable with it. Excited to watch Bennett this year as it appears he's received a vote of confidence from the coach.
Based on the lines we saw when Backlund was out I think the top 6 will be the same as you say, but the bottom 6 will look like

Lucic- Ryan - Mangiapane
Rieder - Jankowski - Czarnik.

A day early for the GDT but no harm in getting hyped!
Let's start this season off on the right foot.
Just kidding, it's the season opener, we always lose

Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Bennett
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson

Rittich to start (presumably)

Avs lines:

Thank you! I will update. I stole the lines from Daily Faceoff but they may not have been fully updated from training camp.

Lighten up everyone, brand new season. We spanked Colorado during the reg. last year, I expect us to do it again, starting tonight. If this team still has PTSD from 4 bad games against Colorado last year, then I worry for this upcoming regular season. Don't let this become an Anaheim type situation, nip it in the bud.

Flames win 5-3.
