The majority of these guys aren't going to cost a premium. For free agents it's usually an overpayment regardless of the destination, but this offseason will likely be the exception (outside of a few of the higher end FA's).

Or the Sabres can pick at 8th and hope that he becomes a player like Kapanen, in 3-4 years time, rather than end up like the pick that they made at 8th to get Alex Nylander in 2016.
Kapanen is easily worth that 8OA.

We don't need another soft winger, who isn't worth a top 10 pick.

would you like to expand on what it would cost for which player in particular that would be such an overpayment ? Yeah for guys like ehlers and Monahan forsure, but there are some pretty cheap options that I listed that would help the sabres and wouldn’t break the bank

Kapanen isn't soft.
He has one less fighting major than all the Sabres combined for this season
