Thanks! Right now he and his 124 ERA+ are my #1. This has turned out really well, because I'm working with good guys. I'm gonna keep the standard rules next year and after guys see what a quality, successful draft this was, I think we'll have more people. I'm willing to do all the non-fun Commish work even if I don't play.

SP CARL MAYS

119 ERA+

I must admit, I actually like this team more than my ATD team. There's something charming about building a team with flawed players.

With that said, I'll take RP Kelley Jansen and RP Todd Jones.

Sorry I noticed Kenley was taken in the prior draft. I suppose I must have made a typo when searching for his name. I changed my selection to Jeff Weaver.

Also, I must admit I was surprised no one took Canseco in the ATD.

No problem. I'll change the OP. Agreed about Canseco.

The Beavers select the greatest pinch hitter of all time, PH/OF Manny Mota

aala025.jpg

20 year career

.304/.355/.389/.744
112 OPS+
1,149 hits
438 RBIs
17.6 WAR
1x All Star
1974, 1977, 1978 NL Pennant Winner

In his career as a pinch hitter, he went 150 for 500 with a batting average of .300. Nobody has ever come close to pinch hitting at that average. Steven Braun is the closest with an .283 average. Even when Lenny Harris broke his record of total pinch hits and all was said and done on his career, he had amassed a total of 212 hits in 804 at bats with an average of .264, .036 points lower than Mota's career mark and had 304 more pinch hit at bats than Mota.

The Beavers select RP Paul Quantrill

365392-feb-1999-pitcher-paul-quantrill-of-the-toronto-gettyimages.jpg

14 year career

68-78
3.83 ERA
118 ERA+
725 strikeouts to 336 walks
18.0 WAR
1x All Star

There are many years to choose from but the one that really stands out is his 2003 season with the Dodgers. He appeared in a league leading 89 games, registered a 1.75 ERA and 232 ERA+, 2.93 FIP and 0.983 WHIP, along with 2.2 WAR.

I agree with you guys that these picks have been better than the last picks of the initial ATD but that is to be expected. For example, I would have loved to take Gil Hodges towards the end of the draft but I already had a back up first basemen in Fred McGriff. I needed either a switch hitting or left handed hitting second basemen as my last position player. I don't think I need to tell you guys how much I needed to scrap the bottom of the barrel to find a decent one of those.

The Portland Beavers select another old timer, C/1B Ossee Freeman Schreckengost

6424858_110633834355.jpg

11 year career

.271/.297/.345/.642
90 OPS+
829 hits in 895 games
136 doubles
31 triples
338 RBIs
44% caught stealing (878 stolen bases allowed to 681 baserunners caught)

The Beavers select another favorite of mine, who will be a long relief option out of the bullpen, P Eiji Sawamura

270px-Eiji_Sawamura.jpg

8 year career (stats from only 5 seasons available)

63-22
1.74 ERA
2.50 RAvg
65 complete games
20 shutouts
554 strikeouts
1.027 WHIP
4x Japanese Baseball League Champion
1937 Japanese Baseball League MVP
Pitched three no-hitters

On November 20, 1934, the 17-year-old Sawamura faced a team of visiting all-star players from Major League Baseball, including Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, and Charlie Gehringer. Entering the game in the fourth inning, the high school pitcher struck out nine batters and held the Americans to a single run over five innings pitched; a home run by Gehrig in the seventh saddled Sawamura with the loss. However, he did manage to strike out Gehringer, Ruth, Gehrig, and Foxx in succession.

Serving in the Japanese Imperial Army, he was killed in action in 1944 when his ship was torpedoed by the USS Sea Devil

Sawamura was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959. The Sawamura Award (Japan's equivalent to MLB's Cy Young Award), which is given to the best pitchers in the League since 1947, is named in his honor.

I'm gonna take a C who may be more infamous than Schreckengost, but he may not be more popular. ;)

We're on a 6 hour clock and should have been for 4 rounds. At the end of the draft there is a 24 hour add/drop period. Teams can pick up undrafted players and drop draft picks. Dropped players can be picked up by other teams.

With the commissioner's permission, thanks to some free time today, I have decided to join your trio, and make the league a 4 team operation.

Putting a list together now, and will start adding players as I go, and posting them here.

Thanks.

Obviously posting your picks here is cool, but guys he's gonna edit his post on the first page so all our rosters will be in the same place for greater voter convenience.

Will do my best not to make duplicates, but of course, if you see me draft a player already chosen, please point it out ASAP. Thanks.
