PIRATES......IN THE PEN.

Harvey Haddix (L)...the aforementioned SP/RP will be the season as a LONG MAN in the bullpen.

Bill Landrum (R) MID......1986-1993.....110 ERA+......3.39 ERA......58 career saves..

Ricardo Rincon
(L) 126 ERA+ Most likely a LOOGY guy, if that is what the situation calls for. Will go more batters if needed. But we also have a lefty long in Haddix and Gonzalez later, so Rincon can specialize.

Dave Giusti (R) 1964-1977...SHORT...Will be our RH setup guy. He spent many years as closer, so if needed he can fill that role also....He started his carer as a starter, but then was turned into a reliever.

His career ERA as a starter is 3.97, but he won't be used in that role at all. His career ERA as a reliever is very good 3.22 ....146 saves.

Mike Gonzalez (L)..... SHORT.....2003-2013...ERA+ 134...ERA 3.14 ....saves 56

J.J. Putz (R) CLOSER...2003-2014......189 saves.....138 ERA+.........3.08 ERA.......3.26 K/BB ratio.....13 WAR

Pirates....BENCH

OF/1B Al Oiver (L)....or Tony Perez (1b)
SS/2B Rafael Furcal (R)
C Mike LaValliere (R)
OF Curt Flood (R)
3B/1B/C. Todd Zeile (R)

(already mentioned Al Oliver and Tony Perez, depending on the day, one will be available on the bench)

Rafael Furcal....SS/2B.......career slash .281/.346/.402..oWAR 32.1...dWAR 14.4..Will be backup at SS and 2B...3 time all star

Mike LaVailliere....'84-'95....9.9 dWAR

37% caught stealing, during period when league average was 31%...career slash, .268/.351/..338

Curt Flood..OF...15 year vet.

career slash, .293/.342/.389 for an OPS of .731 and has an OPS+ 100...oWAR 30...dWAR 10.5...7 time gold glover

Todd Zeile...Third Baseman, First Baseman and Catcher, Todd Zeile.

Able to handle to multiple positions if needed. Probably won't see a lot of playing time, but he is a good insurance policy to have on any managers bench, giving the Pirates good flexibility, if injuries should happen. He will make a valuable, 25th man.

I feel the Pirates have a very balanced lineup. With very good OBP and POP throughout the lineup. Our Defense is very good at the key positions. Up the middle defense is strong with Dom DiMaggio an elite ball hawk patrolling center. Plus gloves with Dick Groat as short and Brandon Phillips at 2b. And plus defenders behind the plate with Burgess and LaValliere.

Our pitching staff is very balanced in regard to the starters and also the pen. No token lefties. Our lefties are legit. Also a bench which is versatile, and talented, giving our manager Clint Hurdle good flexibility.

Ok, that's my team. I am not one for doing a team review, but considering my late entry, I feel I needed to do one.

I have been doing some light reading on the other teams, will finish that tonight. But of course, if anyone wants to do a team review, I will certainly read it.

Guessing there will be no writeups, if none by now, so i sent in my vote to Modo.

Finished going over every player on each team.

I'm not sure if Modo had received all the ballots when he posted, but I pmed him. If he had, I'll ask other ATD GMS to vote, although I did ask 3 in addition to us.

Okay, if any ATD GMs read this and want to vote, please send your ballots to Modo.

It's so hard to get votes, we'll just have the 2 seeds play all 7 games on a neutral field. Let's take 48 hours to think and then Wednesday at 3 PM CT start voting.

Pirates will go with a 4 man rotation. All the righties vs. the all (but one) right handed lineup of the Beavers. Maglie, Rijo, Stottlemyre and Willis.

Al Oliver/Tony Perez platoon in effect as well.

The Beavers will be rolling out a 4 man rotation as well. Jim Perry will drop back into the bullpen. Devlin and Gardner will be platooning at third base too.

Good luck td

DON'T VOTE ON YOUR OWN SERIES!

Please include the number of games, because Modo and I will need them for tiebreakers. If you have any questions, please pm me.

For my series (the link is http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showpost.php?p=116740389&postcount=140 ), please send your votes to the greatest Stars fan on the HF boards, my old friend Modo.

For the other series (the link is http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showpost.php?p=116740185&postcount=139 ), please send your your votes to me, Wrigley.
I have received no pms so I sent Modo my vote and told him if he had received ballots from all the GMs to post them at 3 CT.

Semifinal results:

Detroit sweeps Grand Rapids.

Pittsburgh sweeps Portland.

Detroit and Pittsburgh will meet in the finals. Here's hoping this series doesn't lead to another one-sided vote count.

Wanted to post before the last series, but never got around to it. Will do it now for the Final series.

Since last series saw Pirates starters pitch one game each, and no one is tired/overworked, we can start at the top of our rotation, and go with 3 pitchers. Rijo, Cooper, and Maglie.

Jose Rijo, a World Series MVP, will get the first start. Wlibur Cooper 2nd start, and Sal Maglie, another world series winner, game 3.. The rest of the starters will be in the pen, and be ready for duty there.

Pirates teams feature 13 players in total, that are World Champions.

So they have plenty of winning post season experience.

Bill Madlock, Al Oliver, Dave Parker, Tony Perez, Dave Giusti, Smokey Burgess, George Selkirk, Dick Groat, Jose Rijo, Bob Veale, Sal Maglie, Curt Flood, Harvey Haddix. All have been on World series winning teams.

The Tigers similarly also have all of their starters rested up for the world series as well. We too, have winning experience.

Tigers with a World Series:

SP Dutch Leonard 2x
SP Spud Chandler 3x
SP Jack Pfeister 2x
RP Claude Osteen 1x
LF Alex Gordon 1x
RF Jermaine Dye 1x
RF Jose Canseco 2x
SS Joe Tinker 2x
C Manny Sanguillen 2x
1B Frank Chance 2x
3B Sal Bando 3x

So there is no lack of winning experience here either. I believe that the Tigers should be taking the World series in this one. We have the perfect mix of Offense and Defense in our lineup. Our 3,4,5 is very potent, with two players averaging 28 HRs a season (Galaragga, Granderson) sandwiching a 40 HR a year player in Canseco. All 3 of those players have reached 40 HRs in a season at one point or another. Our SS, 3B, 2B, CF, LF, and C are all +dWAR players. We have another former 40 HR hitter on the bench in Dye, and two stolen base leaders on the team in Myer and Chance. As for our pitching, Leonard (115 ERA+) was downright dominant in his prime, getting two World Series and two no-hitters while racking up the lowest ERA season of all time. Spud Chandler (130 ERA+) was similarly dominant in his Era, raking in 3 World Series. Scherzer (120 ERA+) is already a Cy Young Winner with 2 no-nos in his career, and has been consistently under 3 Era the past few seasons. Clark Griffith rounds out our rotation with a 121 ERA+. Meanwhile our bullpen headlines Miller (169 ERA+ as a reliever), Henneman (131 ERA+), and Benoit (116 ERA+). The Tigers are a team that's hard to hit, and hard to keep off the scoreboard. Vote Tigers! And good luck to my fellow Pens fan TD and the Buccos!
