Rick Nash was the first person younger than you to make the NHL (DOB June '84, debut October 10th, 2002).
Pierre-Marc Bouchard was the second (DOB April '84, debut October 11th, 2002).
Matt Stajan was the first person with your birth month to make the NHL (April 5th, 2003).

I'm born 14th october 1990, so I would have been first draft eligiable in 2009. Some younger players in that draft who made the NHL immediately:

Victor Hedman
Matt Duchene
Evander Kane

I know what OP is getting at. You grow up watching your idols, but it's difficult to look up to players younger than yourself.

Considering my age, the first opportunity would have been in 2002-03 season but no one did that. So it came to 2003-04. The season started on Wednesday (like most seasons nowadays) and there were two players younger that me in the opening day: Patrice Bergeron and Brent Burns.

With Bergeron playing in Boston and Burns in Chicago, timezones suggest it's Bergeron.

Calle Johansson is a couple of years younger than I am, and Luc Robitaille is one year younger.

I'm 3 days older than John Tavares. He may not be the 1st NHL player younger than me to play his first game (the Islanders didn't play until the 3rd day of the 2009-10 season), but must be the first who scored a goal or a point.

I've always loved watching hockey, but I must admit, it was more fun to watch when every player in the league was older than me.... now no players are.

The first to be younger than me: Jeff Friesen

The last to be older than me: Jaromir Jagr
Man, I'd have to go back to the 80's. No idea.

What really stands out to me is, I used to work for a Tier II Jr. team. I was a pre-teen when I started then gave it up at 16. I remember looking at the players like they were adults. They were just teenagers. I know that now but in my mind, they will always be adults.

Aleksander Barkov. He was born about 1,5 months later than me.
