Offense still played like **** and no one's talking about that. Still no "trade all the forwards thread". 5 goals in 4 games is ****ing pathetic. Even the worst teams in the league average over 2 a game.

Now watch, we'll lose game 7 2-1 and people will blame Rinne.

Man, just enjoy the win.

It is not easy to score in the playoffs sometimes- just ask the Capitals- one of the best teams in NHL regular season history- scored TWO total goals in the final three games vs the #8 seed.

Doesn't matter how many goals we scored now- it all comes down to game 7.

well, i'd submit that in this case he offense was weaker because we FINALLY figured out that we win more when we focus on defense first and foremost

same thing happened in the season, after two months of trying to win games 5-4 someone finally had the bright idea to clamp down defensively above all else, and give Rinne a chance to find his groove, which he did.

lets hope this series is a microcosm of the season... great start, crappy middle, great finish

Dead on. You could see it tonight in the play of the D men. Yeah they still pinched and you saw the occasional play like Ekholm when he scored, but for the most part the D was moving the puck forward and getting back. Heck Weber missed a prime scoring chance because of it.

We always ***** about scoring, but most series where teams are pretty equal, it doesn't matter if you score 2,3,4, or even 5, that other team is going to be right there. It's the playoffs it tends to happen for some reason.

Game 7 though we gotta have the first goal and keep it for a bit like we did last night. The second goal may be just as big. If we can some how get up 2 goals early, I think the Ducks will panic, crumble and beat themselves. Say what you will, but those guys are about as mentally weak as we can be at times if not worse.

not just that, but with the lead we can continue to pay tight defense. When we trail, eventually we have to loosen up and that puts us at risk for goal against.

someone is going to break new ground tomorrow... Ducks have lost three striagh game 7's after leading series 3-2, and of course we have never played a game 7.

Yes the defensemen remembered that their primary position is D, but the Fs played much better in our zone, as well as rotating when our D did pinch. It was just a more - ahem - D-etailed effort.

This is some faulty logic, if we lose because our offense isn't good it's the goaltenders fault for not being perfect, but when we win with bad offense it's the team that decide to "focus on defense".

How about this, the defenders should primarily focus on defense, the forwards primarily on scoring and the goaltender primarily on goaltending? If any of those groups doesn't do its job, call them on it. But be consistent.

And this has been the problem. The defense has not been playing defense especially Josi, and Ekholm that and Bitetto is down right terrible and doesn't belong in the NHL. They have been more focused on jumping into the play. By them not playing defense it is leaving more high chance opportunities to the opposition.

Bitetto played really well in the first two games and has been abysmal since.

Arg, it's not the problem. It's a problem. A. Will someone on this board please freaking acknowledge that you have to score in hockey to win a game, there have been no 0-0 won games in the history of the league, and that 5 goals in 4 goals is.... very bad. Please, anyone willing to do this?

Your forwards have got to play D as well though. If your forwards don't pick up the late man or the guy cutting to the net your Dmen are only going to do so much. Playing defensively is different than " let's lock this thing down". It more that guys are very aware of the 3rd man high, covering for Dmen pinching and so on.

They did that really well last night other than on the PP where Forsberg and Fisher just fell asleep

This is my issue. Unless it is for the sake of keep in, I seriously HATE the amount of pinching these guys do. You could say well the forwards didn't get back, well it bodes the same on the defenders. If they had been more aware of the forwards and their positions, maybe they would have not pinched.

Our guys are usually pretty decent at picking their spots. Often the forwards get caught floating in no man's land. There is a reason the team started playing better after the all star game, for the most part everyone was covering for everyone else. All Dmen are going to get caught occasionally, which is why the forwards are there to cover. Problem is ours have a tendency to think offense only.

What? This isn't peewee hockey. Every skater has a responsibility in every zone.

Their primary job is to score more goals than the other team no matter where you line-up on the face-off.

but thats not how it works and never has been. we get a significant portion of our offense from our defensemen, and when we play good team defense its largely because the forwards are pitching in.

I have seen this pattern repeatedly. We win a few games and score a few goals and suddenly everyone thinks they are Gretzky and are pushing for the score rather than playing as a team

When they figure out that we don't beat many teams 5-4 but we win a lot of games 2-1 they start to play well again

Rinne stole both game 6 and 7. Guy came up big when we needed him to and this whole thread looks totally silly.
