I assume Simontaival is still injured(he's missed a lot of games over the past few years). Was Heinola playing through injury?

Think both Tuomisto and Heinola get a free pass and won't be needing to go to the camp. Kokkonen has not played in nearly a month so good for him to get some practice before the tournament.

Nice to see Nikkanen there, but he has not played in 4 months.

So awesome, Im going to Umea in sweden and watch the Finland - kanada game, I have like 3hour drive there so.

It's not sure yet does Lundell play in Finland vs Canada U18 WJC game.
HIFK's next game is this Friday vs Tappara ( SM liiga bronze medal game) so it could possible Lundell will join Finland's team after that .

How do you guys think the formations will look like? first to last line and the power playes? What will be Lundels role in powerplay? I cant remeber him being the one like Kakko,Granlund,Aho or Teravainen for example?. Who will be that guy in this years #1 powerplay?

Powerplay units likely end up as:
PP1:Saarela-Simontaival-Puistola-Räty-Heinola
PP2: Miettinen-Aaltonen-Lundell- Tieksola-Tuomisto

Lundell has good wrist shot so it doesn't matter what role he plays in powerplay.
But in HIFK he was mostly playmaker in powerplay so let's see what coaching staff wants about him.

Nice! Thanks, but mat I ask why Lundell is playing 2nd PP unit?

What bull**** game.
40 minutes just only defending with limited offense.

If we wanna win something in this tournament we ( Finland) can't start play with Canada's or USA's coast to coast hockey it because it will mean TROUBLES 150% likely.

Defence was total crap and we gave too many dangerous scoring chances for Canada.
It doesn't matter piece of **** how many players Canada will miss due to CHL playoffs they are still very dangerous opponent.

This game started go downhill immediately after Canada's 1-3 goal and when you play 40 minutes only defence you can't beat world class team like Canada.

With this-kind game attitude we don't gonna win U18 WJC quarterfinal or any-kind medal.
Our ( Finland) team must WAKE UP now and play much better than today vs Belarus tomorrow.

If / Canada can keep this game mood on they'll will be USA's number 1 challenger for U18 WJC gold medal.
Congrats Canada well played game and deserved win. Finland was today bunch of individuals instead gold medal contender team.

Mika Marttila.
You're head coach so do your job and start make huge changes on that roster.
This Team Finland isn't that team Finland who is supposed to be defensive world champion in this age group.

Why in the hell Roope Taponen has named starting goalie he clearly isn't winning goalie.
Why Roni Hirvonen is still sitting in the press-box why he isn't in active roster.

Look how invisible Veeti Miettinen has been in 2 games
when his teammate from Espoo Blues A juniors isn't playing with him.

The situation is getting critical now we really must win next 2 games.
And if we don't we're going to be relegation round.

And if / when that happen it will be total fiasco.
So start do something and fast and don't stand in the bench like stone gargoyle.

I'm avoided to criticizing Finland but now this complete pathetic bull**** crossed the line.
What a hell these guys have done in Selanne academy these floaters haven't learn nothing from Selanne on that how to score goals.

Who that Marttila mother****er really is and why he isn't fired yet ( should have done after Belarus game). Whole team is soft as dog**** if there is even 3 real NHL prospects i'm more than surprised.

Actually getting relegated would be good wake up call.
But it's not only team it's also Finnish hockey association who should look in the mirror and learn something.

This team is disoriented, undisciplined, and out coaching staffs control.
Right now seems obvious Finnish 2001 born age group is heavily overhyped.
This so called Team Finland U18 national team isn't nothing else than bunch of cocky and arrogant individuals who doesn't have nothing respect for game of hockey or heart to play their country. Every ****ing player is doing fancy dekes etc flashy moves trying to impress NHL scouts.

Goaltending is total crap and defence is atrocious complete mess.
Offence lacks firepower, powerplay is absolute horrendous and penalty killing is mediocre as hell.

Brutal fact is that if these losers advancing to U18 WJC quarterfinal which would be 7th miracle of the world they will lose thar vs USA 12-0 and it would be absolutely right.

Get back to home and immediately you guys have playing wrong level.
And if Finnish association has any balls left Mika Marttila needs to be fired RIGHT NOW not later.

Maalilla:
1 Roope Taponen
Varalla:
30 Kari Piiroinen
1:
36 Patrik Puistola – 20 Anton Lundell – 15 Antti Saarela
2 Mikko Kokkonen – 25 Ville Heinola
2:
10 Leevi Aaltonen – 35 Juuso Pärssinen – 32 Tuukka Tieksola
6 Santeri Hatakka – 7 Antti Tuomisto
3:
18 Mikko Petman – 24 Aatu Räty – 21 Aku Räty
4 Iivari Räsänen – 5 Topi Niemelä
4:
19 Veeti Miettinen – 34 Aarne Intonen – 22 Kasper Simontaival
3 Kalle Loponen
13. hyökkääjä:
28 Roni Hirvonen

Why the hell is is the coach not letting Veeti Miettinen play with Hirvonen instead of Intonen? And seriously, Simontaival is not a forward for a fourth line. He should play with Lundell and Puistola. Leevi Aaltonen should wing the Blues line in the second line and give them some additional speed. They should actually move Saarela, Pärssinen and Tieksola to the fourth, or let Tieksola play with Räty brothers, Kärpät trio. Let Petman and Pärssinen fire some light in Saarelas overrated ass in the fourth?
Why is not Blomqvist getting the chance today? Has better stats this year, and Finlands goalies has been underwhelming.
Räisänen the captain has been **** with -3 and zero points.
With this crappy performance they should´ve chosen Brad Lambert and decided his national future. This coaching staff is utter sh*t.

Things i have had on my mind, Kallionkieli did not get the chance this year, Maccelli last year. Why?
Btw, what has happen to Oliver Sunis development?
Would Wiljami Myllylä have been a far better choice on the fourth line with his speed than others?

In the end of the day my summary of this Finnish team is: Forwards have decent potential but they are trying to shine and forgetting to win hockey games, immature behavior. Kakko is really missing. The defenders are actually lacking more than i would have thought. Kokkonen, Heinola, Tuomisto and Niemela should be decent but they are not playing well. Tuomisto has not impressed me, i´ve not seen him that much before and had some hopes but he has performed like the overall team. Räsänen seems overrated in my books and Hatakka is... Not as bad as Latvala in the u20, but still nothing special.
The goalies then? Oh, my, f*cking days. I believe these are the worst goalies i´ve seen in a u18 team representing Finland. I mean comparing to young Saros, Husso, Luukkonen, Lassi Lehtinen, Veini Vehviläinen, Kähkönen etc. Piiroinen and Taponen seem to be C-class goalies.
Even if i´ve never been sold regarding Anunnen and his abilities & potential, these two guys are even not on his level.
Why can´t the ****ty staff give Blomqvist the chance today? The players do not seem to have any confidence in Taponen? The management should have got fired after loosing against a mediocre Czech Republic and Belarus. It´s a another thing to loose to Sweden, USA, Canada, Russia and some golden cohorts from Czech or Slovakia. When the Czechs have players like Necas, Pastrnak, Kaut, Vrana, Zadina, Chytil etc, and goalies like Dostal or Skarek, but this year they have noting really special. That makes the finns performances even worse. I understands why the finns are raging in the comment sections of Ilta Sanomat etc.

I will not be surprised if Finland will lose against Switzerland, but if they win, i will not be surprised if they can wake the f*ck up and upset the gold favorite USA in the quarters.

Oilers or Canes should choose Leevi Aaltonen. Will become a great winger for either a speedy Mcdavid type of center or a smart player like Aho. Leevi is a really good skater, works hard and can become something. Needs to develop his skills and iq a bit more because of his lack of size.

Taponen gives dangerous rebounds 24/7. With strong goalies and Kakko Finland would beat USA.
Simontaival impressing a lot in the beginning of the first period.

This game could become a tough story because the defense and goalie looks nervous and insecure. But, with that said, Finland are out playing the Swiss in the beginning of the first. Could end up with a five goal victory.
Taponen looks shaky as hell. The defense has no confidence in him. Will not be enough in the quarters if Finland wins this game.

Leevi Aaltonen seem to stepped up as the true leader of this team. Works and skates hard with some skill. Lundell is so skilled, creates something almost every time. Pärssinen seems not to be good enough as second center in my opinion. Simontaival with Leevi and someone else as center should make a better second line. Is Saarela overrated? Lundell and Puistola are out shining him at this moment. 4-0 first period. The offense looks promising. Defense and unnecessary penalties still a question mark.

Probably weakest Finnish U18 WJC team since 2014.
This team really looked like a their head coach.

Every freaking Finnish fan saw how undisciplined and disjointed this team was.
But some weird reason head coach didn't see nothing.

Goalies were total crap but that atrocious defense didn't help our goalies at all.
How many times Marttila took timeout when Finland was in serious troubles yeah not many times.
Also that stone gargoyle head coach didn't have any clue when to pull goalie and do some drastic changes to get team back on track.

Only Finnish hockey association is enough dumb to keep this clown coach still employed in national team coaching.
And the saddest fact is that Marttila has named the head coach of Team Finland U16 national team in 2004 born age group.

When 2004 born age group goes to their U18 WJC's what will be Finland's result there.
If i should guess probably relegation round. Look in the mirror and shame on ****ing losers.
