Kakko, Aaltonen, Lundell and Kokkonen are returnees. Otherwise forwards that will have a good chance of making the team are Puistola, Saarela, Nikkanen, Simontaival, Myllyllä, Petman, Räty etc. Defenders could be Heinola, Loponen, Sedoff, Puutio etc. Looks like a good team and the only aim should be to defend the gold from last year.

Wow, when you put it like that the D looks horrible. What happened to Finland's strong defense for these age group teams?

Also, I don't get why Lundell would be so low. I'd have him as the #1C without any question.

I hope Saarela's bulked up in the summer. From what I heard, in addition forgetting that it's a team game with the A-juniors, he got outmuscled a lot.

3 of the top d prospects for this draft in Honka, Nousiainen and Thomson are late birthdays and can't play in this event. 01 born age group itself has always been pretty average outside Kokkonen, Räsänen and Loponen. Hopefully the 02s in Niemelä, Puutio and Sedoff can step up.

Aaltonen and Nikkanen have always played together, that's why Lundell is not a 1C on paper. Might play in the second line over Saarela though.

What's wrong with this team exactly? They have at least a few really good players in the roster with Lundell and Simontaival probably being the leading figures (talent-wise). Still getting arsewhooped. Has anyone actually watched these games?

We are missing 6 forwards, #1 goalie, 2 top defenseman and still look decent. Seems like a deep agegroup overall.

The team for the WJC 18's looks really good if we get everybody(other than Kakko, seems possible at the moment).

Räty??-Lundell-Kakko
Puistola-Saarela-Simontaival
Aaltonen-Nikkanen-Petman
Miettinen-Pärssinen-Kallionkieli
Intonen

Kokkonen-Loponen
Heinola-Puutio
Räsänen-Tuomisto
Hatakka

Piiroinen
Taponen

I'm not sure is Kakko playing in U18 WJC's at all.
TPS is number 1 challenger for Kärpät and without surprises those two top teams will face in liiga finals.

Hard to see HIFK going far this season so Lundell is a lock to U18 WJC's if he stays healthy.
Don't count out Wiljami Myllylä he's been very good in HIFK's Ajuniors and if he has good spring season he might make in the team.

I wouldn't call TPS not playing in the finals a surprise, not even a mild upset really, but that discussion's for another topic.

I haven't checked the schedules, but on the hypothetical scenario that TPS makes the finals Kakko might still join U18 team midway through the tournament like Aho did after scoring G7 winner?

There's no sense to bring Kakko to U18 WJC's if he can't play whole tournament.
And one more time TPS is serious contender for liiga championship this season so if / when TPS goes to liiga finals Kakko won't play U18 WJC's at all.

TPS won't release Kakko to U18 WJC's without that they get eliminated in liiga playoffs.

How would that be? There was a lot of sense from team's succession's point of view to bring in JP and Aho mid-tournament to their respective WJC U18's. At that level an offensive superstar is often a true gamechanger.
