WC 98 was the best by far. Many memorable goals and great games.

Argentina vs England might be the best WC game I’ve ever seen.
Brazil vs Netherlands
Argentina vs Netherlands
Brazil vs Denmark
Croatia vs France
Spain vs Nigera

All were great games to watch. Many teams in 98 were strong.

That Owen goal vs Argentina and Bergkamp goal vs Argentina were 2 of the most memorable ever.

2002 was puke worthy.

I agree. France 98 was one of those occasions everything clicks and things begin to happen.

I didn't enjoy the one in South Africa that much either. Vuvuzelas were killing me and Spain began to defend rather than attack.

Germany 2006 on the other hand turned out pretty well, other than a couple of disappointments (Ronaldinho not doing anything which set off his downturn and ZZ Top being sent out during the finals, although his headbutt was kinda iconic).

Argentina-Netherlands was by far the better game though, just an incredible high quality game from start to finish.

Romania beating England, Denmark destroying Nigeria, Holland scoring 5 on South Korea and many others, that was the best World Cup I saw live.

Why were the jerseys so baggy that year?

Baggy late nineties man. And Owen was a late nineties teenager, which called for an even baggier shirt. I'm sure the England staff had to talk him out of the idea to play in baggy cargos with a massive chain and pockets full of graffiti sprays.
