Trivia - Can you name any current or past Montreal Canadiens to win or be nominated for the Hobey Baker?

Winners:
Caufield, Geoffrion, and Kurvers
Finalists:
Conroy, Gionta, and Danis

So in 1 year we added 2 out of the 5 finalists ?

Crazy

I think there's two separate finalist pools. One at ten and one for the final three.

What a joke.... Cooley is twice the player and he's younger as well.
The initial Hobey Baker choices are nominated by their respective team. The Gophers nominated Knies and a dmen if I remember properly, snobbing Cooley and Snuggerud.

Nice to see 2 guys, both goalies, from my hometown of DDO being in the top 10. While Levi is Florida's property, would be interesting to invite Perets to a Habs rookie camp or whatever. His numbers in the ECAC over 2 years are nice and at 23 could be a good goalie for Laval at the very least.

Levi's rights were dealt to Buffalo two years ago. But he has not sighned yet with them. Habs have more chances to attract Perets.

So if Levi doesn’t sign w Buf he enters his final year and can declare himself UFA next summer (2024)?

Lane Hutson season is more impressive than Adam Fantilli season. But it's just me. Don't forget that Hutson is a D and he put the best PPG for D since Briance Leetch!
If he wasn't the Hockey East player of the year, how was he the best player in the entire nation?

I guess it's a matter of opinion and maybe those voting for the hobey baker will have a different opinion than those that voted for the hockey east player of the year.

Actually I’m wrong, Buf owns Levi’s rights for 2-more years (4th year college), can become NCAA free agent in August 2025

Yup. Which is why it could be easier to sign Perets after his year is done since he's undrafted.

But he will surely have a lot of suitors.

If I remember right, each team sends a candidate first.

Teams can nominate more than one in the first round of the voting. For example, Harvard nominated Farrell, Coronado & Laferriere.

Then they go down to the Top-10 finalists. Then the Top-3, and eventually the winner.

Exciting time. Not sure Farrell makes it, but he can play. Hutson, I'm very optimistic about. We've got some exciting prospects for sure. Fingers crossed more than one or two pan out.

I think it's a very good debate between Hutson and Fantilli. Both are playing their 1st NCAA season and Hutson is not that much older than Fantilli. Extra production from Fantilli but he's a forward so that should even out in the production area vs Hutson on D.

Question? In the past, have they given the award to players with a longer NCAA resume? Like Caufield and Farrell? Wondering how many rookies won the award in the past?

Since the award was created in 1981:
- 2 freshmen won it: Paul Kariya and Eichel.
- 5 sophomores won it: Caufield, Makar, Ryan Miller, Ryan Duncan, Robb Stauber

By position it is thirty forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.

I think Farrell has a real shot at winning this award. But won't be surprised if Hutson or Fantilli win it.

So why isn’t Luke Hughes nominated if he is head and shoulders above Hutson?

Because the idiots who make these decisions are.....idiots?

Statistical anomalies are far more important than competency in these silly fiasco's.
