Well, I've been looking at the stats a bit and there are some I disagree with. For one, goalies have 4 of the 10 stats to begin with, which I think is kind of silly because that's almost half of the scoring being tracked for only 1 position, or 2 players on any given night. +/- is also pretty dumb if you ask me because in my opinion the stats should reflect individual skill. Obviously you can't avoid this with goalies, but whatever.I moved to the new league as well. I am wondering, having never played fantasy--is it typical to have PIM as a stat? From a theoretical standpoint I don't like it, since it's a bad stat in real life and would encourage me to draft knuckleheads like Marchand or Byfluglien higher. Would it work to use hits instead as a way to give value to physical players?
What do you guys think of these stats:
Goals
Assists
PPP
SOG
Blocks
Hits
Faceoffs won
Wins
Sv%
Shutouts
This way not so many stats are dependent on goalies, and all the skater stats are things you can actually draft for and aren't affected by team play too much. Several different types of players have value this way.
Goal scorers (G, PPP, SOG)
Playmakers (A, PPP)
Physical players (HIT)
Powerplay specialists (PPP, SOG)
Faceoff specialists (FW)
Defensive defensemen (blocks)
Goalies on bad teams also have slightly more value without Losses and GAA.
