Didn't realize that Lehner has a probable torn labrum.

"Because of that uncertainty, McCrimmon and the Golden Knights have been working the phones to gauge the availability of goaltenders around the league."

While the article is framed that a Fleury reunion may take place , McCrimmon has flatly denied it.

So add Vegas to the potential landing spot for Halak if he knows what's good for him.

This.

I mean, you never know what actually will end up happening, but Doerrie said she turned down other opportunities to be here. Rutherford has said he’s been impressed working close to her.

At this point, it’s all speculation. We will see over the next six months the thought process behind the moves.
It is speculation but its better to be cynical than not. Less disappointment when he does f*** up and show his true colors.

Hughes-new guy
OEL-new guy
Rathbone-Schenn
Burroughs

Myers,Poolman,Hamonic out = 11.5 for the new guys. The hard part is finding a way to get rid of those three

Sutter was badly overpaid, but not a bad player. He is being paid appropriate to his skill set this year, and would be much better than Dickinson, except he isn't playing. Such is life as a Canucks fan.
Sutter has trade value at the TDL because he is on LTIR and allows for going over the cap, maybe worth a 4 or 5th pick depending if JR creates a trade that includes Sutter to help a capped out cup contender like Washington, Florida or Tampa

An example of trading LTIR is trading Boeser to Washington with Sutter means a prorated 3.5 mil cap hit, mere 100's of thousands in cap space needed. The same for most other opportunities. Ferland makes any TDL deals even more lucrative.

An added bonus for Halak is it is a no tax state so a pay increase, there are a few no tax states in the US. Any would be value added for a player

If I am Halak, Vegas is a head turner of an opportunity.

All three potential suitors (Vegas, Washington, and Florida) would be very intriguing for Halak but Vegas is definitely the cream of the crop when it comes to getting starting time and playoff potential. Curious if Vegas would have their sights set higher, however. Halak profiles better with the Panthers and Capitals as a premium insurance backup.

Yeah, I'm confused why Halak would want to stay here and be a backup if a contender wanted to bring him in to possibly be a starter. Outside of his last game he's looked very solid and has shown he can take a team deep into the playoffs a couple of times already. If I was a top team that questions about my starter Halak would make for a great insurance policy.

I wonder for Vegas if something like Halak and Sutter for Howden and a 5th would work? Vegas doesn't have a ton of picks, maybe a 3rd instaed?

The ideal trade would be to figure out a team that is about to fall out of the playoffs or bottom out next couple of years and trade for their picks. Teams that might be hanging on for one more kick at the can. Pittsburgh maybe? Washington? Islanders?

What JR is capable of doing is almost like a kid building a fantasy hockey team from the ground up/ The next two years to clean up and build up the cupboard and then 2 years to polish off and improve the team.

I looked at the FA market for 2024/2025, it is fairly impressive and by then this team should have mega cap space to pluck some really good veteran cheap players to support a youngish core.

Size in the playoffs is still gold, an ordinary, even a less than great player that has size, like Gudbranson did, can make a dent way bigger than the easy season when whistles are blown for hallucinations.

Guys like Hughes entertain the fans during the regular season but if not given protected minutes in the playoffs, are deficiencies 5 on 5 or PK.

If this does end up a scorched earth rebuild just about any player might be available if willing to over pay. Miller will be around for another 18 months, Horvat maybe the same, Boeser has to go, Hughes or Petey.
What would it take to get Dahlin? They just drafted Power so they have another super stud coming up.
So over pay for Dahlin, apart from first round picks what would it take to get him?
IMO any of the above greatly improve Buffalo subtracting years from their current rebuild.

That’s not how LTIR works.

Vegas’ cap is all messed up, can’t see them wanting to take on his bonus.
The only way Halak retains any trade value is if we absorb the bonus. As it is, we play him one more time and the bonus pays out anyhow. Might as well recover an asset for taking on capspace. Thanks, Benning.
