Dallas bolsters their blueline with a heavy hitter in Franson, and also adds a reliable backup goalie who will replace the departing Tim Thomas.

Tough to move Chiasson, but with Brett Ritchie ready to make the jump, we feel he will slot right in and make an immediate impact on this Stars team. We wish Alex all the best in Toronto, in hopes that he finds his offensive game once again.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Cody Franson, goaltender James Reimer and forward Jerry D'Amigo to the Dallas Stars for forward Alex Chiasson and goaltender Philippe Desrosiers.

"We are absolutely thrilled to add a big young top 6 forward like Chiasson to our team. We feel that he will fit nicely with our young core going forward. We are also happy to add a young goaltender like Desrosiers to our prospect pool. While he will have to work on his consistency, he prove he can be among the best goalies in the CHL over the past two seasons. We definitely think that he can be a starting goalie in the NHL someday. Franson and Reimer will benefit from a change of scenery. It was hard to move a solid prospect like D'Amigo but the assets going our way were worth it. The Montreal Canadiens have resigned star defender PK Subban to an 8 year $60M contract. "PK is one of the leagues elite Dmen and we are very pleased to keep him in Montreal for the next 8 years". His contract also features a NTC. The Canadiens also resigned the following players.

PHANEUF TRADED TO MINNESOTA

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Dion Phaneuf to the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Mathew Dumba, forward Jason Zucker and Minnesota 2015 second round pick.

"Moving Phaneuf was a very difficult decision to make but we felt we had to go in a different direction to finally build our team properly. This trade gives us two great young players to add to our young core. Dumba has a huge potential and we believe that he will be able to reach it in our organization. Zucker has a solid two-way game and he is the type of player every teams want to have. We would like to wish Phaneuf all the best in Minnesota."
