Not surprised. Karlsson has never been good defensively, he's just usually lucky enough to be bailed out by goaltending and the system. Last night those two things weren't working.

Great player , he is more Paul Coffey than he is Ray Bourque.

Bingo, he thinks offense first. Its not that he can't play elite defense- it is that he usually doesn't. Historically he is on the ice for a lot of goals for and against 5-5. Last night after they are down and trying to come back it is normal that he will take more chances and get burned more.

He is probably the closest we have had to a paul coffey since Paul Coffey. Great player with offensive skills second to none but the defense is not at the same level.

Yes, EK had an awful game last night but it was one game, he is still one of the best in the league and hopefully this will motivate the Sens to step their game up. The entire team was a turd last night.

One thing you learn after watching hockey for a while is really good players have really bad games

As bad as it is , it's still pretty amazing to end the night a -6 [-7 if you include the pp goal]. Won't see that happen for a long time.

Karlsson plays the most out of the defensemen on his team.

Therefore it stands to reason that he would get scored on most.

Just happened that a lot came in this game.

+/- is meaningless.

People who say +/- is meaningless need to understand that this isn't the point. Being on the ice for 7 goals against in one game is really something odd for ANY player. It is even greater of a thing when the one involved is the best dman in the NHL.

Oh it's plenty notable because it's statistically improbable. That's it though, doesn't say anything about Karlsson as much as some people may want it to.

Karlsson is fantastic wing disguised as a defense man.
Even if he was all offence and no defence, the "4th forward" tag is plain dumb.

He's the best puck mover in the league. Transition is arguably the most important part of being a defenceman in the current NHL.
