Of all of the moves Bergevin has made the waiving of Mete for 2 guys who are not an improvement is a real head shaker.

Chalk it up to somehow DeAngelo deal didn’t work itself out...curious why at the last minute?Of all of the moves Bergevin has made the waiving of Mete for 2 guys who are not an improvement is a real head shaker.
Probably, Mete's agent going public with a trade demand....but there was absolutely no point in any of it all......What was the point losing Mete on waivers and trading (losing picks) for two #7 older d-men, especially Gus ? Was Mete such a distraction in the locker room ?

The coaching staff had lost confidence in Mete.
It shouldn't be...he's a moron...waived Juulsen to keep Mete, then waives Mete to spend assets on healthy scratches...sounds exactly like a Bargain Bin type move...
Gus has more offensive skill/IQ than Petry does, in my opinion. The problem is Gus plays defense like Petry does on his bad shifts, but all the time. LolI doubt he wipes his *** as well as Petry does. Gustafsson is inferior to Petry in every way and is a scrub who will spend the rest of his career as a journeyman PP specialist.......not even sure that will be in the NHL.
Which coaching staff — the one that was fired or the interim one that has no pull?
It was the GM’s decision and he should have relied on neither.

I always had Luke Richardson in mind. Based on his usage of Mete and his comments coming into the season about Mete.
I wonder how trustworthy Richardson might be? It always appeared to me that he got here by default and pure timing luck. You never hear about the guy being highly respected or highly sought after. I don’t know what to make of him.
fwiw, Pierre McGuire thinks Petry has improved a lot under Richardson.
He thinks he's a good coach.
Merril is more valuable than Mete. By far.Of all of the moves Bergevin has made the waiving of Mete for 2 guys who are not an improvement is a real head shaker.
For the past 5-6 seasons, trying to figure out why MB does what MB does, has been quite possibly the most frustrating things a person could do....
Cracks me up, when he says, he will not make a trade for the sake of making a trade, yet he has made nonsensical trades over and over.....living by the mantra, rinse and repeat....
He is a guy who gives your four quarters for a loonie, and struts around like he is king.
I will concede that but why waive one player and trade for Gustavfson? Makes no sense. Merrill is decent on the bottom pairingMerril is more valuable than Mete. By far.
Perhaps if we had just kept Reilly (who is clearly superior to all these proposed hapless replacements) we could have avoided all these counter-productive transactions. This management team is embarrassingly inept.Of all of the moves Bergevin has made the waiving of Mete for 2 guys who are not an improvement is a real head shaker.
Just roster moves involving the taxi squad. Out of the D, Mete was expendable. Plus, he probably wanted an opportunity elsewhere and he got it. Gustafsson clearly has more offensive upside. Whether he works out, I'm not sure.I will concede that but why waive one player and trade for Gustavfson? Makes no sense. Merrill is decent on the bottom pairing

I agree with you, Petry is an extremely gifted athlete. Petry's skill level is elite, in my opinion. It's his IQ that holds him back from being dominant, consistently. I think Gus is just a more natural offensive player. He sees the play better and has better awareness on offense. He's very poised making plays offensively; on defense though... lolHave to disagree with Gustafsson being better than Petry offensively. He was entirely carried by Kane and friends for a season and has been a bum ever since. You are seriously underrating Petry's skill level as he is just so much more physically gifted than Gus.

If losing McDonaugh hurt you, the Sergachev fiasco must be absolutely killing you.I think you have to have evaluate the overall moves. Every GM has hits and misses. The vast majority of the bad moves were low risk/high reward involving late draft picks. There are hardly any Habs prospects lighting up the NHL resulting from bad trades (with one notable and unfortunate exception). To be honest, I prefer the current situation to the Gomez fiasco which was the result of desperation and then seeing our prospects flourish elsewhere. It absolutely killed me seeing Ryan Mcdonagh in another jersey after letting him fully develop in college. Instead, we've actually managed to acquire other team's prospects/undervalued players, like Suzuki, Toffoli and Anderson.
Anyway, best way to reduce your frustration is not to focus on single moves and to recognize we're one of thirty teams operating with pretty much same resources as everyone else. We would have a major advantage without revenue sharing and cap limits.
I said the Drouin trade was bad. But it used to be Habs players/prospects would thrive elsewhere. That’s no longer the case. I would rather have Suzuki than Sergachev. Your anger should be directed at the communist system the NHL has imposed that rewards failure and distributes revenue from strong markets. Substitute X for Bergevin and the result is similar or even worse. If losing McDonaugh hurt you, the Sergachev fiasco must be absolutely killing you.
9 years in, and of course there has to be a few good moves, like TT and Anderson, Suzuki.......but the TEAM has had zero success under Bergevin.....
I am a habs fan, not a Bergevin fan. He would never take a loonie from me, for four quarters! lol
Give me Uncle George Gillette, and Bob Gainey any day over this current clwon show put on by Mol$on and MB.
