What exactly do you think he’s worth?

Tough to say. Once he was injured < 1.65. Since returning and showing some hands, somebody mentioned Kerfoot money. IMO Kerfoot money is a bit rich for my liking. No idea what the Leafs think or if they are already resigned to him walking.

Yeah Kerfoot money is a no go. Maybe 2-3M for a year or two on a prove it contract.

Don’t know how long this little shake up lasts, but I would like to see some underlying numbers after a significant time with Nylander on that line. If he wakes up and returns to playoff Nylander, that gives us 3 dangerous lines.

I was happy with Mikheyev on the third, they have been outstanding, but if you can continue shutting lines down with Nylander there and the added bonus is Mikheyev jump starting Tavares and Kerfoot then I would roll with it for a few games to see if it’s sustainable.

Think I gotta give it to FLA's Marchment-Lundell-Reinhart line unfortunately still
Ya - maybe.

What I am excited for this year is that Fla/TB or Car (our likely match ups) don’t really have shut down lines.

I believe the Leafs match up well against all of these teams. I would prefer to avoid TB, but I’m still quietly optimistic.

Starting to wonder it would be worth gambling on engvall with a contract with some term.

yeah they are pretty good, it does make me wonder what Mikyehev can expect on his next deal, I still do not want to overpay him, or Engvall for that matter because I'm not sure they can repeat this next year.

But for the time being it is fun to watch

I'm really happy to see the strides that both Engvall and Mikheyev have made. They are huge on our PK and have improved quite a bit of their game. A year ago I looked at Engvall as a fringe NHL'er, wouldn't have cared if he stayed with the Leafs or put on waivers. I no longer feel that way. Now I see why Keefe was always tough on Engvall, he saw a lot of potential for a guy that huge. Engvall isn't just tall, dude is jacked, he just doesn't use it for physicality. He does. however, have a lot of speed and on the PK, just like with Mikheyev, that's exactly what we need.

I love Kampf as well, but wanted to put more focus on the two that have been here for a few years.

Say what you want about Keefe, but his aggressiveness approach on the PK is absolutely superb. Along with those two, you also have Marner, makes the PK an actual scoring threat on many nights. 12 short-handed goals already, no shock to me that they lead the NHL in that department.

This is me giving some props, some kudos, some much love to Engvall, Mikheyev, Kampf (Marner too) and even Keefe.

These are some comparable players who signed after an arbitration filing.

2×2 looks to be about what he should get.

I wouldn't complain about 2.25×3 or 2.5×4, but we'd run the risk of having another Ritchie contract if he noticeably regressed.

Been a huge fan of Engvall and Mikheyev for years. They really tilt the ice and keep the opposing team on the back foot. Even when they're not scoring, they relieve so much pressure in a hurry. Hopefully they stick around.

Nylander and Engvall with either Tavares or Kampf works
Mikheyev with Tavares and Kerfoot works
Kampf with Mikheyev and Engvall works
now Nylander seems re-energized maybe Kerfoot with Tavares will work again.

Lots of options...oh and Engvall with a great goal last game.

I really like any assortment of the third line. The one posted in the OP is a great shutdown line but I am actually more intrigued to see the mix up where Nylander essentially leads that line.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Miky - Tavares - Kerfoot
Engvall - Nylander - Blackwell/Kampf

Tavares plays infinitely better with guys who work hard to get the puck and Miky has borderline McDavid level speed so the odd man rushes with this line and Kerfoot would be nice. Nylander finally having his own line gives the Leafs a massive threat for bottom pairings to deal with and Engvall is a great skater who also absorbs defensive pressure well. Also allows for an even better 4th line if Kampf was willing to move down. I like the idea of Blackwell on the third line as he is clearly too skilled for the fourth line and he's a decent enough skater to keep up with Nylander and Engvall while also being a physical nuisance for opposing teams and would easily get the puck back for Nylander alongside the giraffe that is Engvall.
