I don't think he needs to make the NHL full time next season to stay on track with top 5 pick expectations. If he has a William Nylander-esque draft+2 season in which he splits time between the AHL and NHL I think it would be hard to say he's not tracking to expectations.

Makar had a strong following and I think was 4th
I think most people assumed Heiskanen would have been taken so not many votes.

There wasn't a consensus on the #5 pick this year.

If you would have asked me before the draft if 2 defensemen were going to get picked in the top 5, I'd be very surprised.
