If only there was a GM that has been kicking the tires on Eichel that is known for changing his mind and making a deal when everyone thought he was out...

This goes beyond the decision of the GM alone. The medical staff needs to be comfortable with the replacement surgery. The ownership needs to be comfortable taking on a $50 million contract. The insurance company needs to be willing to cover Eichel's contract should he be permanently disabled down the road. And finally, the GM would need to be willing to give up a big chunk of the team's future and be confident that it won't kill the franchise. Lot's of hurdles to overcome.

I'm guessing all those conversations can happen in the background and likely have already taken place for all the teams that have been in serious discussions about Eichel previously.

I agree and i wonder what the universe of teams meeting all those conditions are. If it's 3-4 teams then GMKA will probably get his price. If it's one team then not so much. I don't think that GM you are referring to will change his mind unless it is clearly to his benefit. That has been his history anyway.

Town NHL hates !
Who'd a thunk that Buffalo going into a rebuild would worry about a 10mil contract hit that's in LTIR and covered by insurance. Assets to speed the rebuild would be nice but this isn't impeding Terry's ability to afford a new tender for his yacht.

The power move by Jack's agents have alienated a large part of the fan base and bought KA more time to wait out better offers

But the best outcome would be he has surgery, everything goes perfectly well and he still has to play at least half a season in Buffalo to show other 31 GM's he back to pre-injury form. That's at the best being traded somewhere in late 2022 early 2023 around the trade deadline.

Just for fun and curiousity, let's say Suzuki wants to play in NY and Montreal tries to trade him there.

What would be your offer for Suzuki to NYR ?
I remember 2 years ago I proposed Suzuki for Miller when both didn't play in the NHL

I bet Habs would ask Lafrenière (because he's quebecois) and Fox (because they need D). Not saying that's the fair price but they will ask it anyway. They let Danault walk, they can't start trading their future #1C.

By the time its all said and done, Eichel's gonna have more threads than there have been Superbowls.

So, who are the frontrunners now? Are there any at this point? I'd imagine Minnesota and LA have said screw it by now, if they were even remotely serious before. Maybe NYR and Anaheim left?

If he still needs surgery, I do wonder why he's skating with a bunch of other players right now.
To keep in shape?

This has already been mentioned and addressed multiple times. His neck is(apparently) ok in non-contact skating drills. It's once scrimmages and contact starts that the pain probably acts up, nvm the first cross check to the back area in real games, which happens hundreds of times a year.

Nick Suzuki in Rangers is my wish. For this I would be willing to overpay. ;)
Montreal wants to play well in the playoffs. Montreal doesn't want to lose the future.

Montreal doesn't want to lose the future. Nils Lundkvist and Zachary Jones.
This is a 75% deal template. Additions and changes on both sides are possible.
This is my opinion.

The Wild have done almost nothing so far (Goligoski's $5m) and haven't extended Fiala or Kaprizov yet so my thinking is that Guerin is still watching closely.

MN has already consulted with specialists, and Russo tweeted that Eichel would get whatever surgery he wants if it was up to them. I think this happened quite a while ago, at the beginning of their trade talks.

Well, he has signed three Dmen, and a few forwards. Kaprizov and Fiala will probably take a while. I do agree that Fiala's RFA rights might be included in an Eichel deal, so he might not be a hurry to sign him, but that's only speculation based on nothing. It's just as likely that Guerin is truly out of Eichel trade talks for good, and is trying to sign or trade for another Center, or will go with Rask for one more year.

im thinking hes watching the fire burn and will swoop in late in a rask+fiala+ deal when the price lowers due to adams being incompetant.

At this point I think it's Rask or Eichel, idk that there's any other center in our future. I hope I'm wrong.

Zib + Lund, no retention, for Suzuki would really be difficult to refuse. Love both of them.

How much of this is really about the surgery vs. just wanting out of BUF?

Any chance Eichel is insisting on the surgery because he knows BUF won't budge?

Would be fascinating if he suddenly 'changed his mind' about getting the surgery after being traded.
That thought struck me as well. Wasn't there a star forward playing for blue jackets some years ago who did something similar? He tried to price himself out and when BJ met the demand he upped the demand until finally saying he wanted to go elsewhere. Something like that.

I'm struggling to see the consequence if they run out of that runway

1) Escalating conflict between Eichel and the team with respect to the surgery - Eichel could argue that the Sabres are in breach of the standard of care under the CBA. That would be a long, drawn out process. In the meantime, the chances that Eichel will be ready for the regular season get slimmer the longer this drags on. Which would affect what teams might offer for him.

2) If Eichel isn't traded so that he has time to have his preferred procedure (which might not work, requiring the fusion surgery), teams are going to be less willing to give up 2022 1sts in a deal.

3) While I don't see that happening, if this surgery thing drags on too long, Eichel might miss most or all of the season, which will make it very hard for the Sabres to get a deal before his NMC kicks in.

4) This might be one of the messiest team/player relationships the NHL has seen for a while.

Adams is right to have sky-high demands, but his leverage is not that of if Eichel was healthy and/or content in Buffalo.

Not sure I follow the Saber's stance on the surgery on the basis of "it was never done on a professional athlete", if an MMA fighter that gets kick, punched, choked and slammed all day long got it and was fine to go back afterwards, why deny him what he's comfortable with?
