Thanks for the updates. Oil Kings were screwed last year by the pandemic, but they have most of their guys back, and continue to be a solid team and a real threat for a Memorial Cup appearance.

I don't know if there's going to be a Memorial Cup. If so, it may only be a Dub/Q one. The OHL still hasn't even made mention of any agreement between Ontario, Michigan and Pennsylvania plus the Canada/US border.

Even the Q has quite the disparity of games played. Moncton has only played 13 games while Rouyn-Noranda has a whopping 32 GP. That's mainly because of the various authorities shutting down for periods of time, New Brunswick mainly.

Well, then let's win whatever is left for us to win.;)

I don’t really follow junior hockey but saw the thread and realized they were back playing. I checked the standings to see how the team was doing and was a little confused by what I saw. I didn’t realize it was just the Alberta teams playing right now. I didn’t know either that it was only a 24 game schedule. Hardly seems worth having the season at all.

Can you even billet players right now in most jurisdictions? I’m really surprised junior hockey got off the ground at all in the pandemic with the extra challenges they face and the limited funds most teams would have to face them.

24 games is better than no games. It'd be a wasted year of development for the players, especially for the draft eligible ones. No, there's no billeting for the players. Most of the teams will play in their own rinks, except for Edmonton and Calgary and 3 of the 5 BC teams. There's a photo of the Rebels living in a bunk setup at the Centrium. Those who can't play in their own rink are put up in a nearby hotel/motel, I imagine. I'm not sure where the Oil Kings are set up at but, since Katz is footing the bill, probably a downtown hotel.

Last night, the Oil Kings (4-0) overcame a first period deficit and declawed and defanged the Tigers 3-1. Scott Atkinson scored the GW/PPG and was named first star. Jalen Luypen and Jake Neighbours also scored. Caleb Reimer, Carter Souch and Kaid Oliver added assists. Sebastian Cossa (W 4-0) made 18 saves and was named 3rd star. Shots were 26-19 Edmonton. PP was 1/3, PK 1/1. Oil Kings won 33 of 63 faceoffs.

Six players have been granted exceptional status in Major Junior (Tavares, MacDavid, Ekblad, Day, Veleno, Wright), and the only one that has bombed to this point has been Sean Day. Veleno got drafted at the end of the first round, and Wright is TBA. The others all went #1 and have been successful.

Anyone know why the Oil Kings haven't played in over a week and their online schedule only shows 10 games not 24?
